Yeah true. Idk, I've been told first year sucked by a lot of people because there's so much fricken biology. It's just the amount of self loathing is ridiculous. It is apparently a "privilege" to be able to help people and you need to thank patients for trusting YOU, the doctor. I'm all for contributing to society but being told that I owe society for being born "talented" really annoyed me. Apparently I am not deserving of anything I have lol.

Haha, sorry but there's no way in hell I'd ever do pharmacy. It's just not for me. Forgive me for generalizing (and this is a pretty bold statement) but so many Asian med rejects choose pharmacy thinking it's the next best thing after med before realizing what the profession actually involves and the fact that it is nothing like med. They also think pharmacists earn shit tons and are treated like mini doctors.
Too true.

To be fair to pharmacists though, it is quite a rewarding (not necessarily in a monetary sense) profession if you do it for the right reasons and you give a shit about your patients.

Also, working at the right pharmacy is quite important.

i work in a pharmacy and the pharmacists look like they have the most ridiculously boring jobs ever. they also have to deal with a lot of shit customers, shit hours, boring job, shit pay (unless they own a pharmacy)

which is why i am super glad i didnt end up choosing pharmacy.

Yeah, it depends on where you work. Some places just get their pharmacists to dispense and be done with it, some places are really quiet and they get like 20 scripts a day (pls kill me) but there are pharmacies where pharmacists are actively encouraged to interact with their patients, counsel people and you know, use the skills they've learnt at uni.

I work at a pharmacy where the pharmacists have to use a shitload of problem solving skills everyday. It's a pretty busy place but they take the time to talk to their patients and this does make a whole lot of difference, both to the pharmacists and the patients.

/rant of a future pharmacist.

TBH, no, I've never really had a crisis of faith like that.

Especially when I'm actually doing prac, I love it.

yeh, not to mention a huge portion of pharmacy grads are unemployed
Yeah, I have no idea why Asian parents view pharmacy so highly. I even have friends who were sent interstate for pharmacy because they didn't get any offers for medicine/dentistry or even a pharmacy offer in their own state. Maybe they're still living in the days where the pharmaceutical industry wasn't flooded with graduates and there weren't so many pharm schools lol. Pharmacy is still a huge step below med/dent so I have no idea why med rejects love it so much. And if you're in it for the money which I'd assume a good number are, know that it's highly unlikely you'll cross the $100k/y barrier any time soon, even if you do own your own store.

Okay, that's enough pharmacy bashing from me.:haha:

I frequently do. I have always thought of being a teacher...but for irrational reasons I just never tried getting into an ed course.
When I was young I enjoyed debating and reading legal articles, and that probably got me into law, but as I got into the realities of it (i.e. massive amount of uninteresting readings, uneasy environment, 40% depression rate, 30% suicidal rate) I began to think maybe hobbies should remain as hobbies...so now it's up to commerce.

I am thinking of doing a graduate diploma of education after I finish with this, just to keep my options open.
