Ha! Hilarious night. We get this massive hailstorm (for the first time in 4 months) that lasted for half an hour, and right at the end of it, one of the Nightfillers came inside and informed the CSM that his car window was half open. Completely saturated the whole driver's seat.

Anyone know what Monday night's upgrade entailed?

Also, our instore radio is playing up. The music will play for around 10 minutes, then we'll hear the Windows XP shutdown noise, then the Windows XP startup sound and a few minutes later the music will start again, before repeating the entire progress. Discovered the XP screen also shows up on the TV in the staff lunchroom. Walked in while it was rebooting, it was opening some program called "Doppler" or "Dappler", as well as Windows Media Player. Would this be a PC in the store doing this, or a broadcast from the area office?

ours does that i think

the shutdown sounds begin at around midnight, but i don't know how long they go on for. the nightfillers must be sick of it.

It'd come from your local store, typically from a server sitting in your comms room.

The PA always used to reboot at like 3am or 3.15am and you'd hear the shutdown and boot up noise. As for WowTV to my knowledge its fed via satellite to each store. This allows them to do live stuff if they wanted/needed to. So for the bulk part i think that one Windows XP machine feeds its monitor image to 800+ stores.

and as for if nightfillers are sick of it i know we weren't because it meant home time was a bit closer.

Sigh, more changes in Nightfill. Now everyone drops the nightfill load then people will be selected for perishables on rotating basis and the nightfillers go to their aisles. Their also planning on having everyone finish by 1am so that means more people and shorter shifts. We were told that if we didn't like the changes that there was the door, and that we're all replaceable...

They also said people would be sent home (escorted by security if necessary) if their not doing their work fast enough. Are they allowed to do this? I thought that had to at least give you the minimum 3 hours.

So glad I managed to get an interview with Coles.

Sounds like a load of bullshit. That would definately have to violate the EBA somewhere.

I don't think that "escorted out" crap will happen at my store, our managers are too nice to do that. They wouldn't even talk to people like that "if you don't like it, there's the door". That's rather unprofessional IMO.

our CSM has now decided not to do his job, given rostering to the 3IC (who's a total douche who gives max hours to the people he likes (and makes them supervisors) and shit all to everyone else but that's all another rants worth of shit), tells people to replace their own shifts, reads magazines hidden in the rosters at the service desk so it looks like he's working and made every 2nd person a supervisor as "backups" who don't even get trained properly so know nothing. (there's more but I won't go in to it)
so we're not exactly sure what he does everyday, but it can't be much.

i used to love my job, but I fucking hate it right now. :(
Have a closed door meeting when your store manager, write a list of everything in dot point form so he can physically see it, and go through each dot point in a bit of detail.
If that doesn't help, go to HR... If you feel you're being discriminated against.

I'd certainly ring the union over this, failing that you can ring Woolworths HR or even Fairwork Australia. It's absolutely unacceptable. If they want to reduce your hours and are a PT employee then be sure to read the relevant section of the EBA, as there is a rather convoluted process they have to follow before they can do so. They also cannot reduce your nightfill hours while at the same time hiring more Nightfillers. Speaking from experience, what they try to do is simply get you to 'voluntarily' sign a new roster. Don't fall for it and don't sign anything at all unless you're comfortable with it. Of course if you're a casual employee there isn't much you can do, since you haven't got a formal roster as such.

It may also surprise you to know that Woolworths cannot simply fire someone for failing to meet a performance target (scanning items at a checkout per minute, cartons filled in Nightfill per hour etc). What they're trying is workplace harassment, bullying and intimidation. Those threats regarding security are totally beyond the remit. If they asked you to leave after one hour, as an example, they are still required to pay you for the minimum three hour shift.

The store I work at is far from perfect. However, I can say that no-one would ever attempt anything shoddy like this. At someone who works in Nightfill in a supervisory role I can say with absolute certainty that I'm appalled to read this sort of thing. It's an utter disgrace and those responsible need to be called out on it!

Living the dream. :p
Joy. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :D hope it's awesome for you.

God I fucking hate it when there are too many supervisors. We never have a shortage of them seriously, and it's getting on my nerves. All the supervisors were rostered on as operators (including me) the other day, and I was the only one on a mains register. I don't see the need for 4 supervisors at any given time. If it got busy, they all jumped on an express register and called people off the floor to a mains. I'm the lowest in the supervisor "pecking order" at our store, I guess you could say. I like my job moderately at the moment, cause I used to ONLY get supervision shifts, now it's virtually all operator shifts and a supervision shift here and there. Am I not valued? Am I not a good supervisor when I get the job done properly whereas the others always leave something unfinished? I get really cynical about their intentions when stuff like this happens.

But I agree with iMathew, documenting everything they do and then calling a meeting with the Store Manager is the way to go.

I AM ON A WEEK'S HOLIDAYS YAAAAAY. I haven't set foot in my store since then, and it feels good!

I've worked in long life for about 18 months now and am keen to get a few more shifts over christmas/new year period. I also recently got my RSA so i thought it could be a good idea to do a bit of work in liquor.
Does anyone on here have advice on this? Is it worth moving into another department (totally different to packing shelves, mind you) while maintaining shifts in long life?
Is liquor a good/rewarding department to work in?
thanks!

Check out the article "Make Me Over in 14 Days" in AllYours. Anybody able to get a copy of the store lists for the 'make over'?
Read that. +1 for a store list. All I want to know is if my store (4382) is finally going to get a makeover!

Also, expressed my interest to my CSM about being trained up as a supervisor...Hope it happens!
