Re: The Official Football Thread

Good weekend for a United fan. Chelsea and Liverpool lost. Just 3 points within 2nd place :D. If you asked me before the season in a match between United and Arsenal who would win I would say United in a canter. But Arsenal's midfield is raping everyone atm and out midfield, esp. with carrick out and cleverly in doubt is going to get hammered. If we want to beat Arsenal we HAVE to survive the midfield battle. Fellaini aand Jones need to stand up, if Rooney and RvP get enough quality ball Im sure they can score enough to win. Midfield battle is key

So keen for Asian Champions League. It's going to be interesting to really see how good of a team WSW is

Re: The Official A-League Thread.

Pretty disapointing play, we missed a lot of chances, should've got at least 3. Juric needs to stop trying to be a hero and pass - there was two occasions where there was players in better positions but he took a shot anyway.

I also thought the refs were pretty poor on both sides. The yellow against Cole was completely unjustified - from what I saw it looked like the MH player tripped over his own feet. I also thought two of Jurics runs deserved free kicks.

All in all, considering we were missing 2 of our key players and Shinji and Santalab don't seem to be at their full fitness levels.

I thought it was a lot more exciting than last weeks game, with Adelaide and their new "attacking" strategy

Re: The Official A-League Thread.

Wanderers will get shown up in Asia. They sit back a fair bit and invite them to counter and Beauchamp/Topor-Stanley is a pretty slow centre defensive pairing. Put them up a technical and pacey Korean or Japanese outfit with some decent strikers and they will get shown up.

Nothing against them. Aussie teams almost always get shown up in asia, we just cant compete with the pay packets clubs in Korea, China, Japan and the Gulf states give to their players.

Also sydney fc sign serbian striker Ranko Despotovic, who used to be one of the better paid players in Japan

Re: The Official A-League Thread.

Can't say I agree with you, because if you look at Popa's apparent plan, he wants to start off the games and shift to a defensive structure as it becomes later in the game, i.e start santa and then sub on poljak late in the game. ATM theyre not starting off well enough for it to work, but they've got the time to get it right. If they can do it, it means the asian teams will be countered in their early game pressure, especially as players like Appiah Kubi come through, and then steady up later as it becomes more defensive. Spiranovic is another bonus for our defensive line against the asian teams.

I agree on Shinji, but on santa not too sure. I really think he's an impact player and shouldn't be starting. The amount of shots he missed, where an EPL striker would've scored 10 times out of 10 is too god damn high for him to be a key player.

I really think Juric is a gun, and picked him as my golden boot player, as players like Berisha and Neumann seem to be losing some of their pace, and with their returns from injury, could give him the chance. This is, of course, if he isn't injured after tonight- going off with a knee problem... not too many positive outcomes which can come out of that one.
