    Exchange rate paradox

wotcha gonna do with the AUD you borrow, but invest it? The money supply doesn't change. You can pretty much think of it as X (exports) increasing.

    Exchange rate paradox

the textbook reason is: increase rates: o/s investors buy govt securities using AUD -> lack of AUD -> AUD rises but in real life there are zillions of other factors. The AUD rises or falls due to speculation of what's happening. a couple of days ago is a nice example: tuesday: US...

    Naturally smart

but there's the question of 'potential': two people may have the same mark at a certain time (lets say today), but a skilled teacher, for example, may be able to tell that the first student has more potential than the second (i.e. if they both worked at the same pace next year, the first...

    Post HSC exam depression

watch matrix, goto schoolies and come back and it should all be back to normal... it's your first 3-month holiday ever: enjoy as much as u can if the worst comes to the worst, do some studying! :p

    Naturally smart

i guess it has something to do with ability, but you don't know just how easy it is to have other people doing the talking for you, in real life, and in forums. i guess a definition for smart would be when you're fed up with other people saying you're smart...

oooh...nice thread...i wonder why i've never seen this b4 but i must admit i've never seen such an argument without consequence... my science teacher told us a story bout a kid who quit our skool cos he was coming last in everything...and he went to the nearby comprehensive skool and...

I am stumped - please HELP

because of this redox rxn: Na(s) -> Na+ + e- 2H+ + 2e- -> H2(g) and so you're removing protons from the water, you have to be making the solution alkaline. tsk tsk phenol...:p

    Oxidising Strengths

hah... well our time ollie mixed magnesium with sparkler granules....v nice firework material... oh and at my time someone left a little cylinder of (i think) conc sulf in the fumehood, and i spilt it on my pants.... it went purple then the purple bits started tearing apart....good...

    Chem Dp Help~ \(^0^")/ <----gay

according to VSEPR theory, they are paired, but according to another theory (molecular orbital), they're not. experimental evidence suggest the molecular orbital has the last say on this, since liquid oxygen is attracted to a magnetic field (it's paramangetic) and this is due to its unpaired...

stupid BOS ( the actuall bos)

accuracy is a measure of validity precision is a measure of reliability i leeched this off the prelim notes i have, but basically you have two types of errors: systematic errors and random errors.. systematic error is how far off your average reading is from the true value. it's...

    Catalysts.

catalysts provide alternate mechanisms for a reaction. just write that... it lowers activation energy and increases rate of reaction (note that the two are just two sides of the same coin) nothing to do with electron providing (cos catalysts don't give or take). i can't think of an...

    pH question... HELP PLEASE

you're wrong...but the actual working out of the pH of ethanoate is too complex for HSC level...it requires things like acid dissociation constants. in equilibrium chemistry we'd rarely say that smth has 15% dissociation, because the percentage dissociation depends on the concentration of the...

    Calculations

    using n=cV have n(H+) = 0.015 * 0.02 = 3 * 10^-4 mol n(OH-) = 0.010 * 0.01 * 2 = 2 * 10^-4 mol have excess 1 * 10^-4 mol of H+ in total of 25mL this equates to [H+] = 4 * 10^-3 M pH = -log(H+) = wotever,...

    Ethanol Q.

umm it has an oxygen atom already, so burning ethanol (complete combustion) requires less oxygen than burning other alkanes/alkenes... the black smoke / presence of carbon monixide is because there is not enough oxygen for complete combustion...

    Ethanol Q.

you can get ethanol from either ethene, or from fermentation if you get it from ethene, you're wasting money since ethene is more costly, as well as more efficient fuel than ethanol. but since ethanol is partially oxidised, it's easier to get complete combustion using ethanol.
