    balancing covalent bond compounds

octet rule: atoms love 8 electrons in outer shell covalent bond: each bond allows a pair of atoms one extra shared electron inert gases: 8 electrons => no bonds formed halogens (F, Cl, Br, I): 7 electrons => one bond formed oxygen group (O, S): 6 electrons => 2 bonds formed nitrogen group...

    med preferences question

there are WAAAY more than 5 arts/med students in my year at UNSW. there is no restriction, but you have to weigh in the pros & cons of doing an extra year for arts/med. methink 6 years is already long enough, an extra year would just make it more painful (however interesting it may be).

    Balancing

Cookbook for complete combustion of CaHbOc (a, b, c are given integers) Equation should be in the form: CaHbOc + xO2 -> yCO2 + zH2O (where x, y, z are integers) (NB: as there are no halogens and C and O have even valencies, b should be an even number) Preferably in this order: 1)...

all of these Q's use the rule that if the coefficients of a polynomial are real, then the complex solutions occur in conjugate pairs...

    Writing Chemistry Notes

my experience has been that for HSC science you don't have to think very far outside the square and besides, the purpose of making notes is so you have something less tedious than the textbook to read from. it's advisable to make your own notes cos it's a free exercise on how to write...

    Whats going wrong?

well just in case the holidays doesn't cure your panicky-illness: * whenever u find that you've forgotten what you've just read, immediately start to take a break. there's no point reading on because it gets worse and worse. however small the break is, it has to be taken... * explore...

    complex num q.

    alternatively let z = Rcis@ (@ = theta) then 1/z = (1/R)cis(-@) by de-moivre's thm Im(z) = Rsin@ if Im(z) < 0 then sin@ < 0 then sin(-@) > 0 (sin is an odd function) then (1/R)sin@ > 0

    chem ASS task

umm prolly not. it's wot u have to say. they won't expect u to then measure phosphate conc or something silly... if you heat and boil the drink for a while the CO2 should all be gone. so you can titrate it after boiling, and one without boiling, then you can get both. and Ziff, your...

    Should I drop chem?

as with bridging courses, it's entirely possible to do one for chem if it's a pre-requisite for a uni course (e.g. med). Actually, you'd find that you'll be better off than those who did HSC chem (cos HSC chem is pretty much one of the worst chem courses in the country). I don't see why you...

    Writing 'z'

well when you write z with a tail (so it looks like a 3), it starts to look like a 3 anyway. So I ended up not doing that either what I do nowadays is to write a z with a bar in the middle (like what some people do with the number 7 so it doesn't get confused with the > sign).

    Naturally smart

maybe you'd like to argue that, since you don't know anybody who said they've hardly studied and have actually hardly studied and did well in exams, therefore these people don't exist. "smart" people don't grow on trees... just look at all the posts on this thread and convince yourself of...

    some qns

hahaha....u need conc acid for that to happen. if the acid is so concentrated it's syruppy, then u start worrying which reminds me of the time i had a bit of conc HCl and i was going to drench it with cold water, but since someone was using hot water on the tap before, hot water came out and...

    To meds: Gray's Anatomy

why bother buying it? http://education.yahoo.com/reference/gray/index.html but some of the stuff there isn't exactly the newest...there are weird names there that i think are out of date is it useful? yes, sometimes, it really depends on how much your uni actually emphasises anatomy...

    Mathematics in Physics

i don't think they understand why everyone's complaining about the physics exam. i reckon that they have to sack quite a lot of people in the board of studies department, have a restructure, and revert to the old syllabus, if they want to see some real change like, now they'd prefer students...

Is 3 unit harder then 4unit???

my impression was that if you did 4u, then you don't need to study for 3u but i didn't really know what was 4u and what was 3u, cos my teacher jus mixed the two together...
