Hit me now... Worst Marks You Have Had!

40% on an ancient HSC task...I misread the question and wrote a whopper essay on completely the wrong topic. Lesson: always read the question! It took my rank from 1st to 2nd, dammit! :)

UAI Scaling: Advice from a 2003 Student

Miss Macbeth, can I just ask what your final internal assessment marks were? They're the only things I can think of that could possibly have brought your UAI down so far.

hsc related suicides, iv heard about 20 this year

I agree that the HSC is hardly the perfect reflection of a student's worth as a person, but hey, what everyone seems to be forgetting is that it's NOT compulsory! No one's making us do it (kinds weird, then, that we all opt for a year of torture...) It's still possible to get into uni without...

English/History... or anything else Humanities related

Hey thanks Bolkonski! I don't detest case studies so it's not really a problem....rome definitely sounds good so I'll probably choose that one, among others. I have to agree with you about the Australian/American history courses. I guess they're aimed more at students who want to use history to...

    Punk or Rock?

Umm....is there a reason why this is in the extension history forum???

    Ranks

Hey guys. I'm just wondering about the importance of ranks in influencing your UAI. I know this has probably been asked a million times on this site but I can't find it and I'm a little worried. I came 1st in 6 subjects and 2nd in the 7th subject, but I was pretty disappointed with how I went...

English/History... or anything else Humanities related

Yay! I'm planning on majoring in history so definitely need some advice....I'm also planning on doing an english course on postmodernism, I did it for HSC and loved it so much that I want to keep it up at uni. If anyone knows anything about a subject like that any feedback on it would be much...

    Che Guevara for major work

I think the fact that Che is so commercial is what makes the topic complex - historiography is about the construction of history so the fact that Che has become such a symbol is just an added advantage which will give your historiography greater depth. You would have to look at the way he has...

    Che Guevara for major work

Definitely go for Che over Russia - the more original, the better. Remember the markers want to see that you have come to your own conclusions, not simply regurgitated a long-running argument. It would be very hard to come up with new ideas for Russia. What exactly were you planning on looking...

    Above 90 Uai

Yeah it's definitely possible. I know people who got an average of mid to high 80s, but outstanding marks in one or two subjects, and that was enough to pull them up to uais over 90.
  12. G

    Pressure....

Wait, so signing up for that sms thing means we only get hsc not uai? I thought it covered both!
  13. G

    Roll Call

Yeah, pretty definite for me....If I don't make it into arts/law I'll just try and transfer in there somehow after a year. Seems like everyone going to ANU next year wants to do law?

    The First Kiss

First kiss was shite, first kiss with my current bf was great. awww.....

    What an easy exam.

The bit that got me with section 1 was the artists practice. I had no idea what to do other than regurgitate what they told us in the plates and crap on about collecting, organising, and re-interpreting.
  16. G

    How'd you find it?

I thought the q was fine, althought the whole "interpret this design" kinda threw me at first....what do they want you to say when you interpret something? I just ignored that bit and analysed it structurally.
  17. G

    How did you go??

We never even touched on architecture...hopefully it won't matter. I approached it from the perspective of the elements and principles, talked about geometric stylisation, repetition, pattern, symmentry, blah blah blah. I also mentioned the cultural stuff talking about Pei's move away from the...

    What an easy exam.

Dammit, I did 6 as well....I had no idea it would be this popular! I wanted to do the one on postmodernism but it was so specific and it only allowed for the use of contemporary artists, and not many at that. For 6 I did Artemisia Gentileschi, Orlan, The Asian Elephant Project, and Patricia...
  19. G

    How Many Pages?

7 for section 1, 6.5 for section 2. I definitely could have done with more time though, at least 2 hours. My essay was microscopic compared to what could have been said.

    Baggage

Yeah, I kinda see it that way. Normal baggage is just when you've been through some bad times in the past, and while they affect your beliefs they're sort of dealt with. I look at self-pitying baggage as not real baggage, but fishing for compliments. Like, "Oh I'm so fat and ugly" read: tell me...
