    princeps

If I remember correctly, Pompey and Cicero had the title Princeps too - important for ensuring it didn't have imperialistic overtones. The Romans were also sticklers for tradition and precedent, so using that instead of a new title was a smart move by Augustus. EDIT: Magister has kindly...

That's what her profile says :)

2005 History Extension Major Project Topics

Ancient History generally finishes in 476 AD, the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Modern History doesn't begin until the late 18th century though (the French / American / Industrial Revolutions), so lesmiester_dj's stuck in the middle. The sources I used were: US Investigations: - Report...

    Ext Hist project- Black Death

I know almost nothing about the Black Death but a quick bit of research turned up a debate about whether bubonic plague was actually the cause of the massive epidemic. See this page at Wikipedia for more details, and maybe follow up on the references it mentions there.

    Highest UAI at your school?

I don't think anyone got 99 in Physics either - Table A3 reports the 100th percentile mark as 98.0. There is the possibility of accumulation though, or something.

Who got offer for Adv Sience @ USyd?

What do you guys think of the Faculty Handbook recommendation that you do no more than 12CP of Advanced units per semester? I am trying to decide whether to do advanced or normal chemistry, in addition to my 12 cp of advanced physics and maths.

This Project topic alright? Need Opinions

Welcome to BOS! I think it sounds pretty interesting, the 1975 constitutional crisis is such an important event in Australian political history. Also props for effort in sending letters to those politicians. The thing about the research project though is that it's best if you can use...

    Ext. History Texts and Publications?

Sorry, not really. The start of In Defence of History by Richard J. Evans contains a sort of survey of different schools of historiography.

    Ext. History Texts and Publications?

The History Extension Source Book of Readings is available from the BOS website, as a PDF. It has enough material to keep you going for a fair while. If you want to get overview texts like History and the Historians by John Warren (a fairly mediocre book IMO, but one that most schools seem...

    Anyone get a scholarhsip yet?

Yeah that sucks :( Perhaps it's because St Patrick's isn't ranked too highly? I'd say the Arts faculty is also very highly competitive - if you went to that scholarships lecture on Live Day last year, you'd have heard the guy talking about National SRC representation and such...

    100UAI possible?

Your scaled aggregate mark has to be greater than or equal to 99.975% of your Year 10 cohort for you to be rounded to a UAI of 100.00. The other BOS"er who got 100 was picaresque, btw, and maybe others.

    changing your units

If you change units, will they modify your HECS payment? What if you paid by cheque (ie. they don't have your bank account details)?

who got on the physics top 20 list? (for 04)

I got 96 too, and wasn't on the list. According to everyone's favourite Table A3, the 100th percentile was 98, and the 99th percentile (ie. the top 100) was 95.

Elizabeth and Queen Mary of Scots

The syllabus says: "[The project] - may be developed from a case study but should cover substantially different ground - must not overlap significantly with the examinable content of any other School Certificate or Higher School Certificate course." It doesn't matter whether you're...

    Quite worried!!!

I did the same subjects as you, except I did do 4U Maths instead of Extension English. I got 99.90. Those subjects are definitely good enough, if you put sufficient work in. Good luck!

dweliing over subjects and the uai

If you do well in these subjects, you can easily get 94+. Doing extension maths or English does not magically guarantee you a higher UAI, btw. If you do badly in subjects that scale well, you will get scaled down just like everyone else.

Who got offer for Adv Sience @ USyd?

The handbook recommends you don't do more than 12 CP of advanced subjects a semester... you have 30, so unless you are completely ultimate, you might want to rethink whether you want to do everything at advanced level :)

    How do u pronounce 'Cleisthenes'??

I thought Magister said it like CLYSE-THE-NEES, since she said it sounds like "eye". This is how I thought it was pronounced too.

2005 History Extension Major Project Topics

Roosevelt was not a communist  It was Washington's fault, not Hawaii, but there is a lot more evidence that it was simply an operational failure than a conspiracy. If you're going to do that topic, I'd strongly suggest you ensure you use reputable historiographical sources, rather than...
