Re: Two exams in the same day? I have a couple of friends with the Legal-Biology double. Kinda makes me glad I dropped both subjects. (I started year 11 with Biology and Legal, after two of the subjects I wanted to do didn't run. Didn't really work out.) I'd prefer a double, though, to the...

    Now that English is over..

That's pretty much my stance, too. I mean, I'm worried about some of the exams... well, all the exams I have left, really, but I'm not dreading them to the same extent -- either that, or I'm suppressing how much I'm dreading them to prevent myself from collapsing from total utter terror. ;)...

    repeating

The N award in itself is fairly serious... There are meant to be all sorts of warnings before you get one, and it involves a persistent lack of effort. How many units does he have, and what subject was the N award in?

Re: Anyone have 4 exams this week? Ouch... I don't have any more this week, but I have four next week (one a day, from Monday to Thursday), then I'm done. I'd hoped that mine would be more spread out, since I'm not doing all that many units. Oh, well.

    Speeches anyone?

Liked the question. Was so glad they didn't specify... Plus, I had this fear that they'd make us write in some twisted other text type rather than an essay -- like, say, a speech. Did Lincoln and Goldman. They work well together, since they're both talking about democracy, but have such...

Why do people always go on about pages written?

No, it doesn't matter. My teachers said that around 1000 words is good, although it's always quality not quantity (though it's harder to say everything you need to say if you don't write much). How many booklet pages that's equivilent to depends a lot on your handwriting. I (just) went into a...

Did you use 1 or 2 related texts for Mdoule C?

I did two. Didn't really have enough detail on either to do just one, but doing both worked, since it let me compare and contrast them. Plus, one of mine is Gladiator, which is probably the most common additional for Antony and Cleopatra, so I used a second additional (which was less literary in...

    memoir, speech or story?

I did a memoir, though I'm not really sure what a memoir is. (I'm hoping that a first person short story based on a real experience counts.) None of my ideas fitted the story, while a couple fitted the memoir. I never even considered the speech -- I'm too obsessed with fiction.

Was it ok if u disagreed with section 3's statement?

I agreed with it (it worked well for my texts - I do 'Rabbit Proof Fence'), but some of my friends disagreed with it. From what my teachers have said in the past, it's okay to disagree, so long as you can back it up, but it's often easier to go with the question. I think when I thought about...

    Hated Section One?

I didn't find section 1 as bad as some of the past papers I've looked at, and I actually managed to do it in 40 minutes. That said, I've never liked section 1 much... I prefer section 2.

    Messy handwriting

I'm pretty sure it means that it's right on the border between bands 5 and 6 -- I think that's around a standardised 90.

    Physical Journey: "Human Spirit"

I had "human spirit" as something like "strength of character". It worked really well with my texts (I had 'Rabbit Proof Fence' as my set text) -- I was happy when I saw it, because I realised that I might actually be able to answer the question this time. :)

Help me with creative storey end

Yeah, suicide probably isn't the best bet... Is there a way to bring it to an ending that's, while not happy, at least hopeful? In terms of the cliches the English teachers seem to like: What has he learned from his journey? Has he gained a better understanding of himself? Maybe he considers...

    Time division

I'm probably going to be quickest on section II. (Don't know why -- that's just how it's worked in my practice responses. Probably something to do with the fact that, unlike Section I it's pre-planned, and it's shorter than my practice essay.) Maybe something like: Section I - 35-40 Section...

    Swearing in creative writing?

From what my teachers said ages ago, I think it's okay if it's appropriate to the context -- like if your teenage character is angry. Though it would probably depend on the marker. Some might be offended, and thus prejudiced against your writing. Others might think it adds authenticity...

I think for WWI, it used to go up tp 1921 or something (not sure though).

Predictions for essay question this year

For Germany, they've asked about fall of the republic, but not rise of the Nazi Party. (I'm so hoping for a question on that, so I'm making up any possible logic to let it seem possible.) I'm guessing maybe totalitarianism, racial policy, propaganda and repression, or maybe something on...

    English = Study block

Don't judge 4U English by Advanced. I think 4U is a subject of happiness and joy, while advanced is dark doomness and horror. I'm also having trouble studying for English. Maths and Modern seem so easy to study for. Past question, prac essay, rinse, repeat. English is just... demoralising...

For those of us taking more than 10 units into the HSC...

I'm betting English Advanced won't count for me, but I'm still going to try to study for the damned subject...

    Subject Selection question

It's what everyone's said before: You're best 10 units count (though that has to include at least two units of English). If that includes a 1 unit subject, then they count only one unit of a two unit subject. And you can count an extension unit without counting the two unit. So it is worthwhile...
