    Achieving distinctions at uni

I see, you're better at more memory-based subjects than at maths. By any chance, could you be relying on your memory for maths as well in that case? (method learning rather than understanding) I mean, ofc you need to remember some stuff, but things like maths esp need thorough understanding of...

    Biology Bridging Course

I did the bridging course, but it didn't really help anyway (for BIOL1003 - human biology). Go to lectures and read your textbook. They tend to teach you everything from scratch.

To do this unit, or not do it, that is the question.

I'm in a slight dilemma atm about whether to do MATH2961 next sem or not. MATH2961 - Linear Algebra and Vector Calculus (Adv) Pros: - helps with statistics (going to be one of my majors) - interesting - maths subject will nearly undoubtedly increase my WAM (though it's not like I need to...

The 1st site hasn't been renewed for 2012 so it says EAS applications are closed. Just wait for it to open again and complete the application...

    another complex numbers question

Let z=rcis(alpha), w=rcis(beta) so that r=mod(z)=mod(w). Then r cancels out from everything and multiply the numerator by the conjugate of the denominator. Take the real part of it and show that it's 0. => purely imaginary

    Physiology: Good or Bad?

Intermediate chem is only required if you are going to do senior chem or if your course rules say so (special streams/courses).

How many advanced units in 1st year?

BIOL1903 for sure. There'll be lots of times when you'll have to learn from the textbook. I reckon you're actually one of the really rare people who ever buy/use textbook(s) for maths. Vast majority of people either: 1) just take notes from lectures 2) buy Kopystop notes ('official' notes...

How many advanced units in 1st year?

lol, but still. If you read course descriptions for many of those adv courses, there aren't that many things that are more 'advanced' in adv than in normal.

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

I get your point, but I still don't see the whole point of having circle geometry - you can develop those skills with other topics as well. If you want students to think logically, teach them mathematical logic. BoS can also give hard questions in various other topics that can't be done by just...

    MBLG1001 or MBLG1901?

If it says recommended, it's only recommended. You don't need it, but it's good to do. and if it's recommended for senior physiology, then obviously it's only recommended for intermediate physiology as well. and btw, whether MBLG is hard or not depends on the person. E.g. I didn't find it that...

    Indicators

Not the exact numbers, but you need to know the approximate locations for each indicator (say weakly acidic, around neutral, or weakly basic). and the colours below, at, and above that pH ofc But ofc the more details you remember, the better! When you are in doubt, just learn everything.

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

mm, totally agreed. If they do have space then, I reckon they should also renew the probability section of HSC maths to make it more systematic, employing set notation and perhaps some concepts in discrete maths (combinatorics using function notation (also introduce the terms injective...

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

Suddenly came across my mind is circle geometry... What is it ever useful for after high school other than that it improves geometric thinking ability? I haven't come across any use of it as of yet. Edit: oh wait, perhaps in engineering?

What do YOU think should be in the HSC exams in the next few years?

ODEs might be quite reasonable to include in 3/4u, but the rest may be a bit too much. If they include matrices, then they probably can do it only briefly due to time constraints and so aren't likely to be able to teach much of the concepts, e.g. what determinants are useful for/what they mean...

    le chatelier's principle

More like HCO3-(aq) +H2O(l) <-(eqilibrium)-> H3O+(aq) + CO3-(aq) in one step. The bolded part doesn't make any sense since if the reasoning is to make sense, H2CO3 is also an acid and so it should create the sharp acidic taste too. The more correct reasoning would be that H3O+ is common to all...
