    extension courses

Both MX1 and MX2 are offline at my school. Presently, we're using the 2 hour sport lesson each week, alternating between MX1 and MX2, and two 1 hour morning lessons at 8am each week, alternating between MX2 and MX1. It's not really that bad, since I have to leave at 7:45 to get to the morning...

    Excel Guides

Well, I thought the point was to use them as a supplement to your main textbook, right?

    Excel Guides

Well, I'd expect books for 3/4U Maths and the other smaller subjects to come out probably next year or something like that, which might be a bit late for us :( So far I've seen new books for the sciences, 2U/General Maths, and a few others, but not much else has been done yet. What I'm really...

    Excel Guides

The new ones aren't yet available for 3U/4U Maths, I believe. The way to differentiate: well, the new ones look very modern, and they probably have 'New Edition' printed on the front somewhere...

does your family encourage you to finish year 12

Same, I'd finish Year 12 anyway, but I think my parents would want me to finish it anyway.

    Dropping IT

In the real world, if you're not in a technology-related job, you'll need computer literacy, but not necessarily 'IT' skills. Still, getting the certificate could widen options later on.

Can teachers "force" drop you in a subject?

[citation needed] I haven't found anything in all the Board manuals I've read that in fact gives students any power to choose subjects at all. (I suspect there might be something in Official Notices from way back though.)

    workload

It does also depend on your teachers and so on. I get basically zero homework for Legal, and hardly any for Physics. Not much for English either, so most of my homework is Maths, MX1 and MX2.

    Is sport compulsory?

This is a common misconception. Schools CAN force you to do activities. I have heard that the DET has a state-wide policy enforcing sport in year 11, and most Catholic schools have some SoR or other religious studies requirement. Many Christian schools require compulsory attendance at certain...

    Got back physics: 90%, 67.5/75, I assume 1st.

    Worst textbooks

What's the worst textbook you've been issued with yet this term? (Either size and weight, or content.) So far Jacaranda Physics 2 (I think that's what it is) is the largest textbook I've received since I started at my school at the beginning of this year. It's almost A4 sized and 550 pages...

    Is sport compulsory?

As far as I know, sport is a requirement of the Years 7-10 PDHPE syllabus. However, many schools have a school-level requirement that year 11 students participate in sport. At my school, year 11 can choose to do sport or to just take a free, and of course there's the extension courses and...

My school is doing something strange

First exams in week 8? What sort - class tests or 'half'-yearlies?

    First Day

My year is short of Legal textbooks, thanks to them... now we have to wait until they either return them, or the library orders more.

    Subject selection for Year 12

Well, Physics seems to be more in line with Engineering and 4U Maths.

    First Day

Quite boring. Computer network was down :( Got my new 550-page Physics textbook, had an introduction to parametric equations in 3U Maths. Fun.

    Post your handwriting 09ers

Well, I can read it... sometimes. When I try. Really, really, hard, that is. I'll try to read the second one: Growing up requires conscious decisions and determination. Paquin begins the poem with the metaphor of a storm, using images of pouring rain and lightning flashes to represent the...

Preliminary HSC Yearly Exams Thoughts & Results

I hope to get my marks in 3U and Physics tomorrow, where I expect I will do alright in both. As for English... well... not looking forward to getting that back, in about three months when my teacher's marked it.

Never got mine either - I skipped year 4, which, if I recall correctly, was the year they usually gave out pen licences :P
