    Proving Something ...

Re tangnet to circle: as a proof that the normal to the tangent at the point of contact passes through the centre of the circle, is it valid to construct a right angle with the normal as the hypotenuse, then apply alternate segment theorem? Or would you have to then prove alternate segment...

my Q! - compare mass change in samples of metals when they combine with oxygen." The mass will be greater because oxygen molecules from the air have combined with the metal. The Law of Conservation of Mass states that the mass of the reactants is equal to the mass of the products, and this is...

    Theory: Angles of magnitude

Another way is to remember your number plane. I usually draw a little unit circle to help me visualise where my solutions will be - where X and Y are negative on the number plane, the corresponding ratios are also negative, etc. I_F

    to fail year 11 preliminary

Hmm i'm confused, so we DO have to pass all 12 subjects even though we only have to carry on with 10. ... and if we dont we have to repeat them, this is very scary. Surely thats not true... i hope :S You have to satisfactorily complete at least 12 units for the Preliminary course. It doesn't...

A few basic concepts I need help with

No problems. But like klaw said, this is not the right way to approach maths. You'll be far better off doing as many questions as you can rather than writing out definitions. I_F

    maths

Do questions and more questions. That's pretty much the best way to study for maths: make sure you do lots and lots of questions. If you can't do one, ask someone for help, and then do more. Go back and pick a few questions from each of your Year 10 maths book (you really shouldn't need to...

    3d Trig help needed urgently

No absolute values with 3D trig. I'm pretty sure they've just gotten the angles of elevation the wrong ways around. I_F

    exams

I conveniently have a piano exam two weeks after my exams that I'm not ready for, so I'm pretty much saying "stuff the Prelims, finish the piano, and concentrate on the HSC". I_F

    3d Trig help needed urgently

    I've been trying to do it and I end up with a negative as well: h²/tan²14 = h²/tan²12 + 200² 200² = h²/tan²14 - h²/tan²12 200² = h²(1/tan²14 - 1/tan²12) h² = 200²/(1/tan²14 - 1/tan²12) - But (1/tan²14 - 1/tan²12) = approximately - 6. Are you sure that the angles of elevation...

    little help plz

I think you need to multiply 720 by 3 - you have 720 ways to arrange it CVCVCVCVC, another 720 for CCVCVCVCV, and another 720 for VCVCVCVCC. So 720x3 = 2160 ways. I think that's right... I_F

A few basic concepts I need help with

Express 2root3 as a complete radical Take the square of two and put it under the square root sign (when you multiply two separate surds, you multiply the numbers under the radical sign and place them under one, i.e. you get √12. In solving inequalities, what special rule do you need to...

    SC Exam sections

I'm pretty sure you can go back in the History/Geo paper. From distant memory, it's all in the one booklet, so you can flick back as you like. BUt don't quote me on that. Science and English are single papers that you just do as you can. I_F

Has any one changed subjects for HSC?

You can, however, pick up History Extension, English Extension 2, and Maths Extension 2, which are HSC-only courses. I'm dropping English Extension 1 for Maths Extension 2. I_F

    printing to the edge

If you don't have the borderless option, then it's odds-on that the printer can't do it. Having no margins in Word is useless if the printer can't print it. I_F

    2004 Computing skills test

It's all basic stuff, i.e. "Which buttons do you press if you want to transfer text from the web page to the word document?" Don't worry about it. It's not all that important anyways - School Certificate level and you have 5 other exams to get worked up over. I_F

Off the top of my head, in 2U you just cover quadratic roots, so basically just that. In 3U, you expand right out to cubics and quartics as well. Blargh. I_F

Yr 11 PRELIMS - PEOPLE DOING THEM

Exams start in a week for me. I think I'll study a little, but not too much. I'll put much more effort in for the HSC, but I'm not particularly motivated for the Prelims. I_F
