Yes you need to achieve a good result in the common paper, but wouldn't that mean it'd be easier to get a Band 6, provided that I did okay in the Standard paper, and well in the common paper?

I've put something together in Excel to show the factor that the HSC marks were scaled by, for those who are interested. I've also made it so that you can compare two subjects' scaled factors by drop down boxes. I haven't done this before so, I'm not sure if this way shows anything much or if...

EES and Senior Science do not scale well, they scale down IIRC. As for Ext 1 and Ext 2 Maths, they are difficult. Anyone who's done the courses will tell you that. Therefore it tends to attract those who are obviously good at Maths. To put it simply the 'smart' people do Ext 1/2 Maths because...

Haha, It'd suck to do English Ext 2. It doesn't even scale as well as Maths Ext 1 :P
