    Inequalities

Yeah I use the case method aswell for multiple absolute values in an inequality. But I was wondering what was so good about the case method for doing this, as I've always used the graphing method. Looks like I'll stick with it.

    Inequalities

Hmm, that's a bit different to the method that we learnt... Oh well I think my method's better.. Less mucking around.

How many proofs for conics do we need to know?

Which proofs would they be, and how many are there?

    Inequalities

Why would I use cases for that? Couldn't I just multiply both sides by (x2–4)2 and then use a facilitating graph to read off it? Oh, and with the 'case method' I was referring to the method that uses no graphs at all.

    Inequalities

Hey guys, Just wondering, when you solve inequalities (eg. x2-4>0) do you prefer to use the case method, or to draw a facilitating graph and read off it? What's the better method? I was taught the graphing method, so I'm wondering how you do the case method. Thanks

Yes, but that's terminal velocity.. Note what squeenie said:

Isn't that covered in HSC Physics? lol

No, this is Ext 1 stuff.

    Derivatives of inverse trig functions

Hello, For the derivatives of inverse trig functions (eg. d/dx sin-1(1-x)), can we just use the results, or do we have to derive it by going through the chain rules and stuff? Thanks

    UAI at risk?

In a class of 11 people I don't think Ranks mean that much, especially if S.D. is small (ie. marks are bunched). Would someone like to correct me on this?

    Maths & Terminal Velocity

No, they don't. So you're saying that if I drop a mass 10m above the ground, its velocity at say t=1 and t=15 will be the same? All objects/masses accelerate towards Earth at the same rate, ignoring air resistance. Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity (or speed).

Why doesn't BOS release raw marks?

As I understand it, they did release them and then they realised that people could calculate various things (like estimates). So they stopped releasing them. I'm still going to push for my raw marks though when I finish my HSC.

    Calculation of electron orbits

Yes, I can derive it from the given formulae. But then again I can also derive the equation for the EMF of a motor, but it's not required.. so I was just checking. And no, the syllabus doesn't have any reference to those equations.

    Why is G.P.E negative?

lol.. Affinity you seem to recall all that HSC watered down Physics from 2003... :P I take it that you've done some sort of Physics/Maths related course at uni? If so, I'd have imagined that you used calculus, but anyhow :P

    Why is G.P.E negative?

No, Recall the definition of GPE. It is the work done to move an object from infinity to a place in the gravitational field. That means as an object moves towards a mass, say Earth, then its GPE should decrease. Therefore it has to be negative, since at an infinite distance away from Earth its...

    Calculation of electron orbits

Well you see I'm kinda using a book from the 2000 syllabus so I feel that I need to know the concept, but not calculations. But I'm waiting on someone like Trebla to advise me on their 'expertise' :P

    Complex Numbers

I actually like Physics more than Maths to be honest. Physics is easier, and more interesting xD Thanks for the compliment but I'm sure that with practise you'll also be able to also do these questions. Well, I don't think the teachers at my school would award full marks for your answer I'm...
