integration Q

    Alright, if that's what you're after. f"(x) = 1-x² ---> f'(x) = ∫ 1-x² dx f'(x) = x - 1/3.x<sup>3</sup> + c The tangent at (1,4) is y=5-x , i.e. the gradient at that point is -1 --> f'(1) = -1 -1 = 1 - 1/3 + c ----> c = -5/3 f'(x) = x - 1/3.x<sup>3</sup> - 5/3 f(x) =...

    integration Q

    You just use integration to find the curve. What they've done is give you enough information to work out the value of the constant in each integration step. For the first integration you know that the tangent at (1,4) is y=5-x hence the gradient at that point is -1 so: f'(1) = -1 , or...

    UNSW UMAT scores for interview.

    Hey guys, I posted this in the MX2 forum earlier but I figured that it'd be a helpful thing to have here. This table lists "the minimum predicted UAI and actual UMAT scores that applicants needed to achieve to be offered an interview in the main round of interviews (September) over the past two...

    Depends on where you apply to. At UNSW everything is waited a third (UAI, UMAT, Interview) whereas at UNCLE I think it's 50/50 (UMAT and interview) once you make it to the interview process. Noone really gets an 'upper hand' in their interview but the playing field is only as level as your...

    I'd say moderate. I was sweet for module B and module C went pretty alright but I wasn't at all prepared for A (it's been so long!). UMAT kinda got in the way of my preparation yesterday... I should have taken that into account and started working on it ages ago but really, what's in 15%?

    Induction Question

    1/n! < 1/e<sup>n</sup> when n ≥ 6 so, 1/6! + 1/7! + ... < 1/e<sup>6</sup> + 1/e<sup>7</sup> + ... where the right hand site is geometric. as n --> ∞ 1/e<sup>6</sup> + 1/e<sup>7</sup> + ... 1/e<sup>n</sup> = (1/e<sup>6</sup>)/(1 - 1/e) = 1/e<sup>5</sup>(e-1) hence 1/6! +...

    Yeah, English paper 2. It's only 2 hours and it doesn't take me long to get home (especially not when I'm given a lift home).

    That table isn't for getting into medicine. It's for getting an interview.

    Well, if you're wanting to know how it works for UNSW: This Table has the general cut off scores: Actual UMAT....|......Predicted UAI required for offer of main round interview ....152.............|.........................................100.0...

    Well, unless you saw another question with a snail inside a pentagon that rotated with alternating shading, then I'd say that that's the one.

    USyd - Some combo of Philosophy, Pure math and Physiology (Neuroscience). I would probably do adv. science (physiology or math) to facilitate all three or I could be a bludger, go for the BA and just do math and philosophy. Either way I'd be planning on doing post-grad med.

    The snails were unimportant (I believe) and the 5 side 'where does it start?' thing was there to trick you. The shading on the side that moved went left, right, left, right, left, etc... So you had 3 of one (L or R) and 2 of the other --> pick the middle.

    There was a fair bit of background noise going on in that question. I think it was pretty much down to the switching bars.

    Hmm.. good question :p I assume we get our results by mail. Keep your UMAT number handy. You'll want it in case there are any mishaps I think.

    I don't feel I did particularly well but it's hard to tell. I geuss I'll see when my results come back.

    It's done... any thoughts and feelings? I find it pretty hard to get a good feeling for how I went. It was certainly more difficult than the prep material I had come across.

    Help on a simple question

    The person's mass would be greater I think. If you consider that the scales are designed for earth then the scales respond to the force and give you a reading of your mass. To give you this reading on earth it has to, effectively, divide your weight force by 9.8. Consider your weight force...
