why is KJ/g a better measure of 'heat efficiency' of fuels than...

Validity. If the container released a lot of heat energy, the experiment would not be "valid" since it DID NOT achieve the aim of the experiment which was to determine the heat of combustion of various alkanols. It would just give some random value

    Stationary Points

To determine stationary points: Yes solve 32x(4x^2-1)^3 = 0 (your above comment is right). To determine their nature: A stationary point is a very general term that can describe: Turning point (i.e. max/min point) or a point horizontal inflexion - or a horizontal line but clearly this isn't the...

    Gravitational potential energy dot points?

I will derive GPE = -Gm1m2/r for you: We first defined GPE as the work done required to move an object from, say, Earth's surface where GPE is taken to be 0. Hence GPE = mgh (GPE = W = Fs = (mg)s = mgh) Can you see the limitation in this? We now must redefine GPE such that it will...

    Calculus prrof thingy

I think it might be good to revisit first principles of calculus (the limit stuff) where you'll see d (lower-case delta) actually mean something rather than just a notation.

Magnetic field strength at a point?

If magnetic field strength is the amount of magnetic flux per unit square, how can we define magnetic field strength at a point within a magnetic field? :S

    Calculating g with pendulum

What happens physically to the pendulum though that invalidates the experiment if we exceed small angles? I want to write it as part of my discussion
  15. Q

    Calculating g with pendulum

When calculating the value of g with the motion of a pendulum, why must I consider the the arc angle (the angle string makes with vertical when released from rest)? Sources say to keep it within ~30 degrees but can someone tell me why?

Can you 'mark'/give advice on my essay introduction

I think you write too 'casually'; cut your sentences short to create elegance. "The concept of belonging is a multifaceted one" --> "The concept of belonging is multifaceted" "by which the definition really depends on an individual's personal opinion of what they think belonging is" -->...

    Math in Focus Trig Qs

Hi, I had a quick inspection of your working out and I believe you dealt with the angles wrong. Also, you should put at the start of your solution "let ... = Rcos(x-a)" and then equate coefficients etc to find R and a otherwise it makes no sense :S

What is it like to be at the top?

You definitely fit into my criteria. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences (quite an extensive one at that)! I have my own long-term goals in life (engineering/leader) and am an above-average achiever myself, but consistently seeing teachers not being able to fuel the creativity...
