    Eddy Currents

What do you mean magnetic flux out of the page is non-existent? :S You can't have eddy currents that produce JUST magnetic flux into the page.

    Max/minimisation new question

Let length used for square be x, and length used for circle be L-x Now, Area of square A1= (x/4)^2 Area of circle A2 = (L-x)^2 / 4pi ---- Play around with 2pi.r (circumference of circle)= L-x Therefore total A = A1 + A2 ---- Which is a quadratic in x (or L if you like) Try to get to the...

    Eddy Currents

These are my diagrams for clarity :)

    How do you derive this?

Oh okay, I didn't know it was part of MX2. Thanks :) @Hyper_bole I wasn't tested on it, but honestly it's not all that hard to learn. And it makes the whole process of differentiation a lot cleaner (viewing d/dx as an operator vs. as a limiting process by first principles). I'd recommend...

    How do you derive this?

    What? I learnt implicit differentiation in year 11 MX1. It's not a MX2 technique :S

    Eddy Currents

I'll simplify it: A metal sheet is losing flux into the page. Thus, eddy currents are induced per Faraday's law. These eddy currents are circular and CLOCKWISE. This is due to Lenz's Law; the circular eddy currents counteract the changing flux (loss of flux into the page) by creating flux into...

    Eddy Currents

I have no idea what you just said... My problem lies in clockwise vs anticlockwise eddy currents not how they are made.
  8. Q

    Eddy Currents

You can determine the direction of eddy currents according to Lenz's law. E.g. If a metal sheet is losing flux into the page, it will experience induced eddy currents in a clockwise direction to replace it. However, this doesn't make sense to me logically. :S Consider a straight...

Study Journal for an ATAR of 99.95

That is quite a list, but I wouldn't confine myself to such a rigorous plan :S Btw, what is this IDEX/ALARM you mention? The scaffold to writing a response?

    Silly Mistakes

Sure :) I still felt somewhat unprepared 1-2 days before the exam due to nerves, angst, etc. Light revision (stimulation) for me was just looking at questions from past papers and mentally mapping out how I would reach the answer. Some intriguing questions here and there I would do, but nothing...

    Silly Mistakes

I recently got full marks in my exam, so I can offer my perspective on the matter. Leading up to the exam, I made my mind 'quiet'. I transitioned into light revision and concentrated on relaxing by playing sports and music. If you stress and try to cram in extra study sessions, your creative...

    Are notes necessary?

I'm not sure how to answer that question, hence the usefulness of past papers. But I'll try: Fermentation occurs, under the right conditions, when yeast is added to an aqueous solution of sugars. The enzymes present in yeast (zymase) catalyse the process of glycolysis which is the production of...

    Are notes necessary?

But writing notes could be substituted for past papers or learning new content D: I don't know what to do
  15. Q

    Are notes necessary?

I want to use the holidays to perfect my subjects (especially in physics and chemistry) and was wondering how vital are notes? I don't write them because I feel like what I learn becomes... almost instinctive; natural. Except maybe for some pure theory e.g. history of periodic table. Has anyone...

    2014'ers Chit-Chat Thread

Ngaw thanks everyone :') I think I got full marks on MX2 also if I didn't do anything stupid in the curve sketching section. Phys/chem only had assignments (lame) :( Like seriously why is a practical experiment to determine the value of 'g' worth 25%? I just hope I'm somewhere not too far from...

^ First the worst, second the best. :D I finished all my exams today. ALAS! And I got back my 100% in MX1 :) So relieved because I thought I made a mistake.

Notation for sum of roots etc?

That last one means product of all the single roots right?
  19. Q

Notation for sum of roots etc?

I was looking at 4u solutions of Terry Lee and noticed he did "Σ a" to denote sum of single roots and furthermore "Σ ab" to denote sum of products of two roots at a time, etc. I.e. Σ a = -b/a Σ ab = c/a . . . How valid is this in 3u? I always wrote out in words "by sum of single roots" :S
