But that's because they don't get into law or med - they do "pre-med" as a major for example but they can't brag about that until they actually start at the university. Also, the Ivy League universities are only a selection and their "name" doesn't carry as much weight as it perhaps used to...

    Books are overpriced?

Not even illustration. Any design motif throughout a book, no matter how minimal, requires a designer (this also includes the cover - why do you think the orange penguin books are so cheap?) EDIT: Oh and most self-published books aren't that expensive if you buy them from an online site or the...

    Books are overpriced?

Remember that it's not just the authors who receive the proceeds from the book. Their agent needs a cut, as does the publisher (and whoever within them works on the book including illustrators, designers, editors), distribution and the booksellers themselves. A flimsy cotton dress might cost $5...

    situation

Closure is a bullshit made up idea that never happens in reality. Ignoring him is the best idea. From the sound of it, you've done everything right.

    Yes we can

This Valentine's Day is going to be awesome. I'll be overseas and the boyfriend is going to be at Good Vibes :) No forced present giving or elaborate all day plans, probably just an email/sms saying "love you & i know i'm having more fun than you".

He may not have meant it in the same way but that's how it came across. I have no idea who this kid is but he's kind of a dick and he's also pretty wrong.

What would you guys give this story out of 15?

That said, in terms of this story, watch your adjectives and adverbs, remember "show, don't tell" and I have to admit, it's bordering on pretentious right now. You don't need to use "Autonoumously" in front of "I continue up a fatigued footpath and cross the adjacent street." In fact, you don't...

What would you guys give this story out of 15?

You are not an avid reader are you? Read Italo Calvino's If on a Winter's Night a Traveler and tell me you still feel the same way.

    Poem - plz read

Are you kidding me? Even at 16 or 17 I would've thought this was a cliched piece of shit. Because it is. Don't dumb down your work for your supposed audience. Be aware of an audience but don't patronise them. There are about a thousand things she could do to make this poem better. Spell...

    Poem - plz read

Yeah, the truth does hurt. It may be 'truthful' - however subjective that is - but it doesn't evoke anything because it's purely cliche. Enjoy reading mediocre writing - there's a lot of it out there.

Standard. Not a lot of Standard students end up with a B6 in the end. I can't recall the percentage offhand but it's very minimal. If you're getting those marks you should do Advanced. If you did Standard you would get very bored very fast.

    Poem - plz read

Being self-pitying only makes you that much more annoying. If you want to improve read as much as possible, go to as many random writing sites as possible and stop writing for a bit. Otherwise, you're going to have to accept that slapping together cliches in an attempt to express emotion is...

    Poem - plz read

I know right? Basically, you've just written a stock standard amateur teenage poem complete with cliches and misspellings. Congratulations, virtually everyone in existence has done that. If you want to "express" yourself, go ahead. Just don't post it where someone will rip it apart. The 4...

    twilight series

Dear God why? Is it not enough that a Mills & Boon book has won all this popularity by masquerading as a trite piece of 'vampire' fiction, that it has been made into a terribly B-grade romance movie and has now converted millions of teenage girls into walking relationship disasters, but now you...

Difference between Uni and High School?

You can have a couple of beers before a history exam and still get a D. So duh. It has a bar.

Weird. However, that's from Hong Kong. There might be a different system in place. When I explained that I was from an Australian school they said I had to have my high school diploma. Also, do you mean they didn't do their "grade 13" and instead just took the SATs? Your phrasing wasn't...

Uh no. You have to have a high school diploma or the equivalent, which in the states is the GED, to go to college. That was what I was told when I applied, even as an overseas student.

    uni in america

No. You don't have to do the IB to get into university there but you do have to do the SATs. People who don't take the SATs take a test called the ACT. Some universities require both. They also look at your high school grades (normally year 9-12), extra-curricular activities and have a long...
