    Locus of the first one should be y=-a, shouldn't it?

    Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon Patel Ex 5E Q28 "Show that the polynomial x^n+mx-b has a multiple root provided: \left( \frac{m}{n} \right)^n+\left( \frac{b}{n-1} \right)^{n-1}=0. Find this root." I've found the root, I just can't work out how to show that condition. It's pissing me off because it's...

    Re: 2012 HSC MX1 Marathon Not to mention it means that 3U counts for 2 units. Compared to the people on this forum it might not be. Yet. The "maths people" here are pretty elite. You've got people in their first/second year of university maths, people who've competed in the international...

    Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon Haven't seen many graphing questions, so here we go. Graph the following parametric equation: <a href="http://www.codecogs.com/eqnedit.php?latex=\\ x=16\sin^3(t)\\ y=13\cos(t)-5\cos(2t)-2\cos(3t)-\cos(4t)" target="_blank"><img...

    area of region

    Wow, I cannot believe I got that right. My method was completely different though - a lot longer and harder and altogether less efficient.

    area of region

    EDIT: Disregard that, I was entirely wrong - changing my answer to 25(2+3pi). I don't have time to write out my working, but hopefully someone can check that.

    Legal Measures

    It's not just legislation, legal measures are basically anything legal-related. You could say, for example, that "the use of Youth Justice Conferencing is highly effective in achieving justice for young offenders as they aid in the process of rehabilitation (as seen in -insert statistic/legal...

    What kind of marks do I need for 96+ with my subjects?

    Fuck me, you've still got 3 terms before you even start the HSC. Surely it's too early to be worrying about stuff like this.

    Memorising Essays

    This. Most of the people that I've spoken to that have done well in English have gone into their exams with plans for individual paragraphs and then using only the paragraphs that are relevant. That being said, the girl who topped the grade and got an HSC mark of 96-97 (iirc) said she basically...

    Wanting to re-take HSC - 2012

    OP was referring to advanced science I believe, although I was just looking at the late round cut-offs and there's vacancies at UWS for Med Sci (Advanced) with a cut-off of 90.10 or 92.75. Not sure how the bonus points work at UWS, but I'm sure you could give it a try. It's better than repeating...

    Bye, bye Mathsonline.

    Itunes U is basically the same as MIT's OpenCourseWare, but it's posted on itunes and there's a couple of places that post their lectures (Only one I can think of off the top of my head is Stanford)

    studying=homework?

    I agree with this, although I know lots of people who class study as any non-compulsory work, so they don't include homework.
