re: Preliminary Yearlies Discussion Thread

Just got home from my first yearly exam which was English.
I'm happy with what I did, about 15 pages of writing in 2 hours, my hand was cramped at one stage!

Most of the people around me didn't manage to do as well or even failed to finish on time :S

re: Preliminary Yearlies Discussion Thread

Yearlies begin next week:

Thursday - English Advanced
Friday - Biology
Monday - General Maths
Tuesday - none
Wednesday - Physics
Thursday - Religion
Friday - Chemistry and Business Studies.

I'm hating the last day of exams ^^ Chem = hardest subject. I'd much rather have it first, so I can get it over and done with =[

OH WELL. I GUESS I'LL JUST HAVE TO PARTY HARD WHEN EXAMS ARE OVER :D

Just finished the first English paper and have another tomorrow. I'm quietly confident...I think I got 90%+ but hoping for 95%+.

I'm so screwed. I'm only studying for Maths.
Okay, maybe I should stop doing Maths after doing a few more past papers. and then move onto Economics. After that I'll move onto Ancient History.

Fuck man. there's so much to do. FAIL FAIL FAIL here I come.

I studied 6 hours straight yesterday and I ALMOST DIED

For some odd reason our school had yearlies in weeks 5 and 6. Mine were mostly in the first week, and I had the worst last two exam days. :(

Mon - Adv. Eng, SOR2
Tues - Free
Wed - Adv. Eng
Thurs - Maths 2U
Fri - Chem, Eng Ext. 1
Mon - Maths Ext. 1, Biology

I've already received all my results and most of my rankings, pretty happy! Though I bet anyone anything that no cohort would have received the same Chemistry results as us - 31% average, with 9 people (out of 41) passing.

Good luck for your exams!

re: Preliminary Yearlies Discussion Thread

had English Advanced and Chemistry today.
English Advanced they told us we had a full exam.

They gave us 1.5 hours to write two essays. One on Othello and one on Robert Frost poetry.
under both Advanced questions 'Minimum 10 pages each is recommended'
I got 10 pages and 8 and 3/4 pages. My hand is still hurting now. I've never done so much writing in my life haha.

And Chemistry, let's just not talk about that. that exam was absolutely horrible.

Finished all my exams today, just a 3U English Assessment due tomorrow and I am done. I had Modern History, I wrote something like 20 pages. Beautiful stuff. And 10 pages on an essay is WAY too long. My 20 pages in Modern was 3 essays, 2 mini essays and sourcework. I write like 6.5 pages max in 40 minutes (3 words per line though) so 10 pages is insane.

they say larger than normal writing in exams is a sign of nerves.
understandable
i HATE how people that don't do modern discount it as a subject. our essays have to be so detailed yet succinct, well structured and written. modern exams are a killer.

Do you mind telling me your essay question on Othello so I could practice up?
I have the exact same layout as your exam, two essays in 1.5 hours! :mad1:

ahh D:
Yeah sure :) Our Othello question was something like;
'What major themes and techniques contributed to the downfall of the tragic Othello, including two of four visual representations'.
the visuals were othello and desdemona kissing passionately, Othello on his knees, Othello and Iago talking (Iago being manipulative) and Othello stabbing himself.
It was a really open question, just not much you could write other than 'Iago was a prick' roflmao :)
