Kevin Rudd has dumped Julia Gillard's proposed September 14 election date and is weighing up whether to go earlier or delay the poll to maximise his chances of rebuilding public confidence in the Labor government.

I heard on the radio they can't change the referendum date, it's fixed to Sep 14. So since he's changing the date, they'll be blowing hundreds of millions on a second polling day, or more likely no referendum

Reinstating Kevin Rudd as prime minister has dramatically improved Labor's chances of winning key seats in Labor heartland, a poll shows.

The Fairfax ReachTEL poll, published in Saturday's Fairfax newspapers, was conducted on Thursday and found a huge turnaround for Labor in four key seats.

Melbourne's Maribyrnong, held by Bill Shorten, showed Labor had a two-party preferred lead.

Labor support in the former union boss' seat went from 52 per cent on June 8 to 59 per cent the day after Mr Rudd took over.

The Melbourne seat of Chisholm, held by Speaker Anna Burke, was ahead 55.2 per cent to the Liberal's 44.8 per cent .

The western Sydney seat of Blaxland, held by Jason Clare, rose to 59 per cent two-party preferred compared to 48 per cent under former prime minister Julia Gillard earlier this month.

Also in western Sydney, the seat of McMahon, held by new Treasurer Chris Bowen, had 51 per cent support for Labor compared to 38 per cent support back in March.

Tony Abbott even though he did Bachelor of Economics "has very little interest in economics and has no feeling for it. He is innumerate", as said by his mentor and former Liberal Opposition Leader John Hewson. Tony Abbott and his economic advisers couldn't count oranges and apples. They opposed fiscal stimulus that kept Australia out of recession/ depression. Tony Abbott is the biggest risk to the Australian economy since John Hewson. Tony Abbott has no understanding of the real economy. Kevin Rudd will become Australia's second longest serving Prime Minister.

Too long we've suffered from Labors internal conflicts and shit fights. Whilst I think Turnbull is a better option for PM, Abbott is still better than anything in Labor.

Paul Keating and Bob Hawke are Australia's greatest reforming Prime Ministers. Without the economic and social reforms of the Hawke/ Keating era we would not be enjoying the high living standards we now enjoy. Paul Keating as Treasurer and Bob Hawke as Prime Minister, then later with Paul Keating as Prime Minister was the longest serving federal Labor government in Australian history. Okashi you have zero credibility on this issue.

Newspoll: 51-49 to Coalition

Newspoll concurs with Galaxy’s two-party result but has both parties lower on the primary vote, with Kevin Rudd doing no more than break even with his debut personal ratings.

James J reports Newspoll has come in at 51-49 to the Coalition (compared with 57-43 last week) from primary votes of 35% for Labor (up six), 43% for the Coalition (down five) and 11% for the Greens (up two). Kevin Rudd holds a handy 49-35 lead over Tony Abbott as preferred prime minister, but achieves a neutral result with his debut personal ratings with both approval and disapproval at 36%. Tony Abbott is down one on approval to 35% and up three on disapproval to 56%.

We also have supplementary results from yesterday’s Galaxy poll courtesy of GhostWhoVotes showing Joe Hockey favoured over Chris Bowen as preferred Treasurer 38% to 20%, and 33% saying Rudd’s leadership style has improved against 43% who say it hasn’t (although that may include people who think it didn’t need to). (UPDATE: I gather from Simon Benson’s Daily Telegraph report that it was put to respondents that that some thought his style “chaotic and dysfunctional”).

Rudd to reduce carbon price by $24 a tonne. The source that gave me this information was Alan Jones from the radio station 2GB.
The Prime Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd has announced that the Australian Labor Party will reduce the carbon price from Julia Gillard's fixed price of $30 per tonne of pollution by 2015 to a market price of $6.20 per tonne of pollution by 2014. Working families and industry will be better off under the Rudd government than compared to the Gillard government. In 2012 the carbon price raised $4 billion in government revenue. Under the Rudd government the government will raise $0.8 billion in government revenue in 2014.
