How different?

Cable: 10-20ms off UNSW, when I last played/hosted any games.
ADSL: 20-25ms off 3FL, according to some gamers.

There's only a 5-15ms difference between maximum (and minimum) values.

I'm sure you can live with a 5ms difference, or even 15ms!

In 1999 it was $10 per PC. Then it became $11 with the introduction of the GST. They're probably relying on the more 'honest' customers (unknowingly) paying the extra fee for every additional computer on the network. You can always set up NAT and, as you have suggested, I'll be setting up a Wireless (802.11g) network hopefully after xmas and during the New Year. The ADSL Modem itself doubles as a router but I'm going to need the Access Point anyhow (Netgear).

It'll be pretty cool, as the Xbox should have wireless connectivity in the future (wireless NICs), then I'll be able to stream files across the LAN, wirelessly (and also, I could allow Internet connectivity for the Xbox, so Live! will work too).

I'll feel sorry for the guy who leaves an open wireless connection or has an insecure WEP. Go the wardrivers

They are rorting idiots, by default when i first installed Telstra i was paying an additional 11 bucks, because they enabled it, i payed it for 2 months till i started reading the bills because my dad didn't bother, so then it was slightly cheaper, it was stupid they turn it on by default, idiots i tell you!.

I was in the same situation. I was paying the $10 (then $11) for a few months until I decided that I could rort it myself, LOL. Now I'm only paying the standard fee, but I should be disconnecting, I don't even use it anymore (even with the fancy new plans, it doesn't compell me to stay, with 10GB and uncapped, I'm a patient person ).

im still uneasy to chip my ps2 for some reason...i was also recommended DMS3 but im uneasy about chips. i like to keep things original. is it worth it?

Definately worth it, JAP/USA NTSC imports and DVD-R backups are the central point to my PS2. I would highly recommend the DMS3 over all other PS2 chips at the moment. If you like to keep things original - turn off the modchip! However I understand any apprehension about voiding the warranty.

Thanks, I can go out right now and get one and "settle" for the 8GB (or 10GB) in-built HDD on FATX, but I would rather save a little bit extra, because right now I can remove one of my 120GB HDDs from my PC and format it (although I will be losing all data, which I require). That's why I'd rather wait a little bit longer, save a little extra, by Christmas time all should be ready and I'll be able to buy another 120GB (Seagate ST3120023A or higher), including the 8MB of cache (cheaper if I opt for the 2MB cache) and be able to FTP all the files across to the new Xbox HDD. Alternatively, I would still be able to do everything I wanted on the Xbox without any Xbox games, since it will become more of a media/jukebox and home theatre for my room, playing MP3's across the LAN (via Ethernet Cat5e cables), but there will be a wireless network adapter/interface for the Xbox, I might even import one from overseas and have it connect to the Access Point directly, allowing file sharing, internet connectivity and general streaming of all file types: XviD, DivX, VCD, SVCD, MOV, MPEG2/3/4. Basically all movie formats on the PC, even AAC on the Apple Mac (iTunes) would play, as it is just the same as having your PC, using your TV as a monitor (I do that all the time though, with TV-OUT and my S-Video cable).
