I prefer Neo-Classical now. Usually of the New Age strain like Yanni, Enya, 2002 etc.

I've been listening to classical a lot lately. I like too much to mention, but palladio is pretty amazing:

debussy isn't classical. but he's awesome nonetheless
i was using the term "classical" broadly like most others.

and if you are going to get so anal about it, for the record, dvorak isn't a classical composer either

I swear listening to classical/romantic/20th century music is like a drug for me. :D I can never get enough of it. Happy 200th to Chopin this year!!

I know a lot of people use that term so broadly, and I have no problem with it.

If we were going to get technical, 85% of the composers mentioned here aren't classical composers either :p

I don't listen to only classical, but some of my favourites are Beethoven Symphony no.7 (1st and 4th movement, 2nd is quite nice as well), Mozart's Symphony no. 25 Allegro and Sonata in D for two pianos (=O the mozart effect! but it's still nice anyway) though most baroque/classical/romantic compositions by the major composers are nice to listen to. Helps you get to sleep :D

For those unaware... there is 'classical' (the broader term) and there is 'Classical' (the period from 1750 to early-ish 1800's, which included composers such as Beethoven, Mozart, etc).

My favourite composers are mostly Impressionist/Romantic/20th Century... Liszt, Bartok, Ravel, Debussy, Ligeti... and the Russians (Rach, Prok, Shost) as well. Schoenberg is my favourite composer, and Pierrot Lunaire my favourite piece of all time.

I studied them this semester...

Some stuff they write is good...

But so much of what they write is pretentious wank...
But some people argue that about ALL classical :p

Yea but people who know what they're talking about don't ;)

More the fact that you have something like Philip Glass' Music in Twelve Parts that goes for nearly 2 hours or something, stays in the same key and feel and changes inordinately slowly...

for 2 hours...

It's like 1 very VERY long trance song...
