He is a criminal in the libertarian sense of the word. He has committed crimes against people by authorizing violence against them, and the theft of their property.

Of course, the legal sense of the word that states that a criminal is anyone who doesn't follow the laws of the government would hold that Nelson Mandella was a criminal and Mao was a law abider.
Wow, a little sensationalist there maybe???

Firstly, how has he authorized violence against anyone, or promoted theft of property? Secondly, you can't really draw comparisons between such regimes. Also, yes he's really shitty on same sex marriage, yet so is almost every politician in Lib-Labour (I'm not defending labour here btw). Oh, and why didn't you throw in climate change (seriously), I'm ashamed of Australia's governments response to this.

And can those who feel the need to throw around big words like authoritarianism, communism, marxism, sectarianism etc for the sake of it please stop? Wow, you know big words and fancy concepts, though applied to the Australian Government is ridiculous. The fed gov isn't marxist, authoritarian or communist, nor is the opposition extremist, fundamentalist or totalitarian. It's like primary school kids saying "I know the biggest word; antidisestablishmentarianism!!!", it's just irritating and makes you want to punch them in the face. Stop vomiting out big words, stop being sensational.

(It'd suck if someone had aleady covered this!!! Oh, and if the threads moved on from the original topic by now, sorry. :D )

rudd was never left wing in the first place, most of the lefties are you put it that voted for labour at the last election only voted for labour because they had been voting labour for the last 20-60 years, most of the lefties of this generation voted greens or socialist something

I think both our major political parties are right wing. The Liberals (ironically named) severely right wing and Labor still quite right wing. There is no left in either of the two parties.

Labor are not right, they're centre left to left depending on who the leader of the party is.

put it this way

-both parties support exorbitant minimum wage laws
-both parties support more or less our current welfare system
-both are opposed to the death penalty
-both are for universal healthcare/education
-both support anti-hate crime legislation, anti-discrimation laws, and plentiful non-white immigration
-both more or less believe that human behavior is completely malleable; they only disagree slightly on what role the government should have in modifying it
-both seem tob e split on their support for homosexual marriage but still support extremely liberal laws on homosexual rights relative to the rest of the world
-extremely liberal laws on civil liberties depending upon the domain

HOW THE FUCK IS THAT SEVERELY RIGHT WING

i dont think theyre extreme LEFT WINGERS either but jesus christ if you think that's extremely right wing at all you are a moron

Care to elaborate? Labour of today is significantly more right-wing than Labour of Gough or Hawke's time. Similarly, Liberals of today is significantly more right-wing than the Liberals of Fraser's time.

It's a disgusting trend, not least of all because the shift has involved a large move towards social conservatism in both parties.

I was referring to the fact that they regard the "Liberal" Party as being erroneously named, given the fact that in the US, the term has been subsumed by the left.

I think you're conflating right-wing with conservatism. Generally speaking, all conservatives are right-wing but not all right-wingers are conservative, which is especially true in the Liberal Party.

This is true.

Also political compass has both liberal and labor on the right and greens on the left.

no no, most of the time when people point out how "severely right wing" parties like the liberal/labor parties are they are strictly speaking of social conservatism

usually they get some ill conceived notion in their heads that because they dont support gay marriage or some other irrelevant thing then they're AHH EXTREME RIGHT WING FASCISTS

and at any rate even speaking in an economic sense it would still be ridiculous to say either of these parties are 'severely right wing'

Also political compass has both liberal and labor on the right and greens on the left.
that is a trash site that lifts a lot of its questions from the f-test and the frankfurt school

i would tread with caution on any of the results given from that page

i thought you meant by 'conservatism' to mean right wing in the social sense, not necessarily the economic sense

do you really think that girl back there makes distinctions as fine as that in her posts

i never got that term right wing fascists how can the right wing political spectrum suddenly jump from limiting civil liberties but heavily supporting the free market system to no liberty and a centralised system.
