alright mateEbonyTW said:The point of society is to cater for society.
im sure the weight will just disappear magically (somehow)...Pace_T said:haha probably. now thats REALLY helping the obese people lose weight, isn't it?
Obesity is a condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to such an extent that health may be negatively affected.[1] It is commonly defined as a body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or higher.[1] This distinguishes it from being overweight as defined by a BMI of between 25–29.9 kg/m2.[1]
Fact is, if they are on the flight; they (morbidly obese people) are going to take up two seats. Making them pay more just humiliates them further.Pace_T said:i can totally see where rockyroad is coming from with her argument. i however dont think that feeling sorry for them is a sufficient basis for subsidising their airline ticket.
Upon what do you base dubious claim, given what has already been stated in this thread?Rockyroad said:Subsidising won’t greatly adversely affect the rest of the population but it means a lot to those who are overweight.
I knew i should have worded it better.... weight does have a cost associated with it, yes but the issue being discussed is more about how many seats fit in a plane i.e space rather than weight. Otherwise underweight people would be getting a reduced fair, men would be paying more than women etc.Kwayera said:Actually it is partly about weight - which is why most airlines have piece and weight restrictions and charge you massively for extra pieces and weight.
Weight = fuel = cost to airline.
if public humiliation every time they went to the shops didnt discourage them from eating so much and exercising so little what is paying double for their airline ticket going to do? do they walk around the airport screaming out to everybody that they had to pay double? only the people they are buying tickets with actually know how much they paid.Rockyroad said:Fact is, if they are on the flight; they (morbidly obese people) are going to take up two seats. Rockyroad said:I do believe that most fat people do not want to be fat. Therefore they always want to lose weight. Subsidising their ticket is not going to make much of an effect on their weight loss, it really isn’t. They already want to lose weight; they already look down on themselves for being fat. Subsidising doesn’t make much difference to anyone else; furthermore, it won’t reduce obesity.
good point. i like you're thinking. but to use my example earlier; you go to a restaurant and have a regular sized meal but because you are obese it doesn't fill you up. you go to court and demand that all restaurants give all customers a meal appropriate in size to satisfy each and every one of them. i.e. skinny people get small servings and obese people get huge servings. of course the obese person's meal is going to be the same price as the small person's.Rockyroad said:When people say it’s not fair for fat people to get this extra seat for free… well they aren’t exactly getting a seat for free – because they use it up the same way you use your’s up. This way, everyone gets the seat they fit into for the same price.
basically what you're saying here is that its ok to take from the rich (regular sized people) and give to the poor (obese people).Rockyroad said:Subsidising won’t greatly adversely affect the rest of the population but it means a lot to those who are overweight.
My problem also.Pace_T said:nice airlines will give the seat for free and i think thats quite nice of them even if my ticket price goes up marginally. but the issue i have is with the fact that the court ruled that airlines are OBLIGATED to give the seat for free.
No it isn’t. The point of air travel is for air line companies to make lots of money. Giving away a seat that would otherwise cost $1000 to a fat person, disadvantages the airline and disadvantages the other passengers. I have a mental problem and believe I have an imaginary friend. Should my imaginary friend get a free seat because I’m a raving sped?Yeh they probably should get an extra seat, the point of air travel is to accomodate for people in society.
Sweet! Tell them to give me a call and I’ll explain to them how they can be LESS FUCKING FAT.A lot of people in soceity are obese! And it barely impacts on other passengers, except that an extra person could be in that seat. That being said, I think that other person as well as the individual who is overweight would rather not be in that situation lol.
Hahah, you’re the bestest. How about unless these fat people can give a doctors certificate from three different specialists, a GP, Psychiatrist and Dietician, saying their weight is beyond their control, that we chuck them off the damn plane. I hate being stuck next to fat people on any form of shared transport, invasion of space much.
For starters, you can get rid of this little ‘LOL OMG DID I ESPLAIN IT 4 YEW?!’ attitude, because so far you’ve been making ridiculous points at people far more developed, and far smarter than you.By saying "they probably should get an extra seat" I meant should be GIVEN an extra seat; as in FOR FREE. Jesus sorry for apparently not making it clear enough for you.
And there has been much mention of wether it is better for the overweight individual to either a) have one seat and annoy the people who are next to them or b) have the extra seat and therefore extra room.
I'm sure that unless the seat was free, many overweight individuals wouldn't bother paying for an extra. To all the people complainging saying it is unfair and "they should pay for their on seat", I was merely pointing out that there is little negative effect on other airline passengers except for the fact that for every extra seat used, one less person can travel on the plane. I then went on to indicate that it is unlikely the person who could have been in that seat would enjoy being squished up next to someone who doesn't quite fit, it would be an incredibly unpleasent flight. Neither would this be a pleasent experience for the overweight individual.
Sorry, what? Them paying for their own seating arrangement is more humiliating than being given a free seat because their fatass can’t fit in the chair? Are you retarded? Seriously?Fact is, if they are on the flight; they (morbidly obese people) are going to take up two seats. Making them pay more just humiliates them further.
You’re not a fucking psychologist. I want to see some peer reviewed shit discussing the psychology of fat people. If they want to lose weight so bad, they can get off their fat asses and go on a low calorie diet. It’s not hard, thousands of fatties before them have done it.I do believe that most fat people do not want to be fat. Therefore they always want to lose weight. Subsidising their ticket is not going to make much of an effect on their weight loss, it really isn’t. They already want to lose weight; they already look down on themselves for being fat.
That isn’t the point of giving them a free chair you twat. And of course giving them a free chair makes a difference to the rest of the passengers, THE AIRLINE HAS TO RECOUP THEIR LOSSES SOME HOW? So what happens if there are 3 fatties on a plane. That’s 3 seats the plane has lost in profit. How do they recoup this loss?Subsidising doesn’t make much difference to anyone else; furthermore, it won’t reduce obesity.
how do you "tactfully" tell someone that their kid is fat lolkatie tully said:What does everyone think of this proposal?
Sydney West is training all staff next year to identify obese children. They will be required to 'tactfully' inform parents that their kid is a fatty, and they'll be required to refer them to the appropriate resources.
Shotgun not telling parents
I dunno. Apparently we're going to be trained in the fine art of fatty bashing.^CoSMic DoRiS^^ said:how do you "tactfully" tell someone that their kid is fat lol
without lying and saying something like "bla bla puppy fat", I mean
Not just doctors.Kwayera said:Wow, I wouldn't like to be those poor doctors.
I saw an obese baby the other day. It was disgusting; I wanted to lay into the mother, but how do you do that?
