As for your situation, you can do so. But if you plan to major in languages then it'll be fucked because everything starts in semester 1. =_=
You can still do it in semester 2 if you have previous study of the language you wish to major in or have lived for some time in a country where that language is spoken as a common language. You'll just need to apply through an online placement form. You'll probably have to do an extra language course the next semester to make up for missing semester one study of the language though, e.g., you do professional French B in Semester 2, a random arts course in summer school, then three other French language courses the next semester.

I was just wondering, is there any possibility of me being able to get in to a course if I'm like .45 below the cut-off? B Media Arts/B Comp Sci? If not, what's the best course to take if you want to transfer to CompSci.

Possible? Sure. Since the cut-offs are from the previous year, you'll just have to wait and see.

That cutoff is for 2012 commencing students, not 2013 commencing students. We don't know the cutoffs, so it's pointless to speculate whether you'll get in or not. What you should do is put what you want to do first, then put that BMA/BSc second, then a course with a clearly low cutoff for the last few years as your next preference, then hopefully transfer after a year.

You can choose any mainstream course if you want to transfer to Comp Sci - you are able to choose Comp Sci subjects regardless of which degree you're enrolled in. This way, you don't waste a year of study, and if you genuinely like Comp Sci and want to do it, you should be able to get the necessary marks to internally transfer.

I guess you could enrol into Arts which has a slightly lower cutoff than BMA/BSc, or Social Science or Architectural Computing or Planning etc. There aren't that many courses with a consistently lower cutoff than BMA/BSc, so take your pick.

That's true though, but then again if you have no previous study of the language then I'm saying don't do it in semester 2. (well, they won't let you enrol in sem 2 anyway)

Yellow shirts applications were open in August and closed in September. You should have completed them by then. But oh well.

All online.

But you'll need a TFN, so if you haven't got one yet, that will need to be done in person (like at a tax office or centre link), unless you live in greater Melbourne region, Albury or Wagga Wagga.
Is there anything else besides a TFN we need?

Yeah there was an email sent out ages ago for YS applications. But since you're in the science faculty you might be able to become a science peer mentor. They sent out an email already and applications close like February or something.

quick question about B arts, do the ATAR changes at all in all years?? I want to do media (screen and sound) but I don't have enough ATAR even with 5 max bonus points (I'm only eligible for 3) so there's my first choice but otherwise yeah my first question?

The cutoffs do not change a lot at all. Looks like you might have to take the hard way in unless there is a dramatic drop in the cutoffs.

It has been some time since I have done it so I might be wrong, but I think that the TFN is all you need. When you get your student ID, you'll need to bring either a driver's license or passport. Apparently, it's better to get your student ID done before O-week since the line is long during that week from what I have heard.

Btw what is your first lecture like? And tute? Is it awkward? :S
Boring. Mostly, they just go through admin stuff, telling you where to go if you need help on the course and how to use Blackboard, etc..

The first tute is gay. Extremely gay. Your tutor will make you introduce yourself to the whole tute, wear a name tag, and do all this small talk bollocks like we're all little children. Not cool if you're an introvert, so yes, it is awkward and quite frankly cringe worthy. However, if you do labs, I don't think you have to do this; I didn't have to.

Don't worry too much about it, you'll survive.
