My sister told me lectures finish five minutes early and begin five minutes late, so you get about ten minutes to walk to class.

Anyhow, going from W104 to SRLT2 will not be a problem at all, probably a 30 second walk. SRLT2 to GG04 is a bit further, but not too far at all.

SB202 to EF02 is the longest hike, but shouldn't take too long.

I think SRLT2 is in the SR block (Social Sciences), which is above-right to the W block. I'm not too sure about GG04, but I guessed it would be near the sciences, maybe Geology, so not too far away.

Distance probably won't be a problem, I'd suggest driving there one day and testing it out. I think I'm going to do that soon. :)

I used to have to trek from EF02 to Around SB and it would take about 5 minutes...but i am a super fast walker....you would be able to get from SB to EF02 in 10 minutes easily

dont stressed about being too late. in every lecture theres at least 3 late people anyways, and usually lecture classes are so big that no one really notices. just try not to make any huge noises and ride down the steps on blades half way through a lecture like someone did last semester and youll be fine.
p.s. lecturers HATE mobile phones going off in the middle of lectures so just a tip to turn them off to save embarassment

yeh sure from what ive done, see ive gone the long and hard way coz i bludged through my HSC and got a crappy mark so i had to work my ass off to get into the forensics course, last year i did just a Ba science but followed the forensics course so i havent officially been doing the course yet.
i have done the science side for first year however unless you are in an official laws degree then you cant do laws subjects so ill be in your laws classes this year but ill be doing 2nd year chem and bio. also we dont get to start the specialised forensics side till the second semester of second year so your chem and bio will be with people from many different degrees.
but seriously woith anyone doing first year chem and bio, if you did it in high school and got a good mark then your pretty much gonna kick ass in first year chem and bio. the only real struggle in first year is the adjustment from high school to uni style of learning, which isnt too much,,, hey i survived!

anyways im a student mentor for this years first year science students (we are like the mature version for peer support and get to wear free bright green shirts) so hopefully ill get to meet people from here there on o day

so if you need a hand give us a yell... trying to get them to let me be a forensics mentor specifically so it should be all good

Hehe, the more info the better!

I did Biology in the HSC (got 84) but not Chemistry - which is my main issue. I'm doing the bridging course next week, which I guess is better than nothing.

I think I might just need a mentor, lol. :D

seriously if you guys need any help on campus give me a yell, i dont mind a bit, being from the coast and having only 3students from my school go to the same uni,,, and at total different end of the campus and at a place totally new to me,,, i was exactly the same when i started out so i know the anxiety!

84 in bio is a kick ass mark! and you should be fine, and doing the bridging course is a great idea. let me put it this way, i did nothing in the HSC, hence i got a 66 in chem 68 in bio and only got into a Ba science, but i still managed to do so well that i got into forensics after my first year, as long as you stay on task,,, which is sooo easy after the HSC and school, then you should be fine, you are allowed to fail a subject 3 times before they kick you out, and if you get to that stage then you'd need kicking out!

id be glad to help!
-keep the questions coming

lol *thinks of questions*

Oh I've got one. :) In the Chemistry lab work, do you have partners? If so, did you get to choose your partner?

Which one did you find more challenging: Biology or Chemistry?

Are the final year exams as hard as people keep telling me? :uhoh:

Thanks! :)

in the labs for chem and bio you get to pick your benches,,, for chem this is three people on a long bench on one side and three on another, generally you work alone but if you do an experiment that is long and has a few parts then youll have to do it with the others, its always good to team up with someone that you know, if not then make sure you get your results before they leave!
last semester i had two other girls on my bench and between us we worked all the experiments out, youll get a talk before you start a lab from one of the lab assistants describing what exactly you have to do. ALL your instructions, down to what page the information is on will be in the chem lab book that youll have to purchase in the first week or so. youll also have to complete a safety tutorial and theyll stell you all about that in first week, this is to make sure you dont blow the lab up,,, and if you do,, then so you know where all the extinguishers are hehe.
john ferguson was the chem coordinator for last years first year,,, his a little scary/grumpy looking but if you ignore his little grumpy image then youll start to understand some of the little jokes he makes.

in bio labs youll get to pick a bench, but its a giant bench with like 8 people on a bench, you usually split the bench for experiments but some groups work together. youll get a mini tutorial on what youll be doing in the lab before you start which is much more informative than the chem ones,,, especially if you get into one of gary ellem's classes as he is one of the best demonstrators i think.
you dont buy a preprinted lab book for bio but need a lab book (you can get them from the union shop) with grid and lines. theyll post the lab notes (description of EVERYTHING) in the lab on the blackboard website (yell if you dont know what it is,,,, just this messageis getting giant!) and youll print them off for the lab.
and you have to get a lab coat and funky dissection kit, but they organise that on the first lab

(emma takes a breath)
next?
hehe
