Eh. As far as I'm concerned you are both off living with the fairies, and here is my proof:

Well, why don't YOU go live in YOUR little fairyland, where you can believe everything the media tells you to believe.
pfft.

That took longer than I thought it would, but eh. If you are sad enough to be home on a friday night, you can be sad enough to construct a 'proper' post.

Edit: Maybe sad isn't the correct word, but eh (again).

My post was meant to be "off with the fairies"...I was trying to illustrate a point.
Melbourian claiming I live in a 'little fairy land' because of my 'type' of opinion is as stupid as someone claiming someone believes everything they read because of their 'type'.
It was meant to be ironic...but obviously that didn't come across. Year 12 english was a while ago now...

Bloody hell... Attempts at humour, however bad, never seem to filter through over this forum...

Butterfly, maybe you do believe it, but the way it appears is that your opinions are based on the gross misrepresentations appearing in the media, particually in Fairfax papers. I'll let youbelieve what you want to believe, however wrong and however ill informed the opinion is. It really doesn't worry me.
Although that was probably meant as a back-handed insult, thats all I've been asking for all along.
Thankyou.

damn. wish i'd found this thread earlier.

now before you get all "go away you idealistic hippie/socialist/communist/anarchist/leftie/greenie/dole bludger/whatever, oh and by the way the smh/age is pure evil, and the australian is completely objective and well-balanced" on me, have a listen.

you know that paltry $4/week tax cut we got last budget? that money could have been used to retrospectively cancel current HECS debt, and fund an additional 50 000 university places.

not taking into account the money we spent on our token contribution to the efforts in iraq. no matter what side of the war debate you sit on, you'll agree that our efforts were pretty tokenistic compared with what the US and UK put forward. don't you think that could have been taxpayers' money more wisely spent?

(oh, and just as a point of interest, who scares you more? the extreme left or the extreme right? if you give the answer all my friends gave (including the right wing ones), then that just proves you're on the dark side anyway :D.)

ermm, that's all i can think of at the moment.

First of all, HECS fees won't necessairly increase, they are partiually deregulated, thus universities are allowed to lift them 30% if they wish. However, as HECS fees are linked to future income earnt, you are paying it back when you have the financial means. And as the threshold for HECS contributions rises with these reforms, it theoretically will be more affordable.
lol. so hecs fees won't rise necessarily, but if they do, it'd only make education more affordable.
ahahahaha yea ok

of course the hecs fee increase is a big problem too, low-income students already have a lesser chance of going to uni, how do you think these increases in fees will alleviate the problem? it won't.
it's just adds to how students will be getting a place in uni based on means rather than merit.

HECS can be deferred, and the threshold has been raised, although it could go higher than the $30000 odd level that has been proposed. While it may make people think twice, it won't necessarily stop people from attending university.

the HECs fee increase are not a big problem from my perspective.
but they still act as a disincentive. price goes up, demand goes down, its a simple theory for you hardcore economics students aye

why doesnt anyone wana discuss the fee paying quota part of the reforms? :(
