Thats clearly a bit rich Moonlight. I only argue the left in order to counter the extreme right. My personal beliefs economically are to the right...my social values rest to the center left

Like I said, there are two axis, one may be sacrificed to the prominance of the other.

Also, moderate left and moderate right are still left and right. Putting people in categories will always upset those on the borderlines but it is a convenient heuristic for how balanced this place is.

So union fees to be fair should be proportional?

Well no they shouldn't but the way they spend their money should keep this fact in mind. At the moment it is hard to see them doing anything other than re-distributing money from poor to rich or those who live off-campus to on-campus.

Personally, I favour a situation where compulsory student unionism is abolished and replaced by a compulsory fee charged and administered by the university. This way it would ensure that services provided are actually meaningful and not controlled by people who seek to manipulate funds for achieving their political goals.
