october and november have just been utter shit for me.. im going on schoolies on friday, maybe things will change then (hopefully)

a generalisation if i ever heard one. Happiness does not have a universal definition. Money isn't everything, and just because someone has the aforementioned, it does not mean they are happy; and just because they lack them, it does not mean they are unhappy. I believe in being grateful for what you have, but the "life is good for anyone in Australia" is a really, really dangerous viewpoint to have.

it's not the money.. ie. economic growth that makes you happy, it's more likely the level of economic development. first comes economic growth, then comes economic development.

its the acccess to education, medical services, government, religion, etc.

isn't it obvious you're likely to be unhappy if you're dying of a preventable disease, yet have no access to medical services?

Some people are STILL living under an unstable family environment. It's something they have to deal with everyday. Considering the economy and the price of rent and the jobs most teenagers are able to get, I don't see how you think that's going to improve any time soon.

but money can certainly buy everything else..

Well I wasn't really talking about recession in regards to the economy.

It's my experience that parents who provide a lot of material things for their kids are often cold, distant, emotionally detached or in some way abusive. This is certainly true for my own folks (for which I don't really blame them, they were raised the same way). A lot of the richer kids I know would gladly give away all that they own for Mum or Dad to spend some time actually talking to them.

I guess it's the whole "grass is always greener on the other side" syndrome.

As for acting to resolve & confront family issues: this isn't easy. Usually the best action for people is moving out, spending time away from the family environment. For most people this is not affordable at all. 26 year olds are moving back into home.. Most 18 year olds are pretty doomed.
