Wrong.

Small companies won't as they wouldn't have the funds.

But larger firms would. My aunt was offered to do one fully paid, which she declined as she was already on top of her career.

I don't think you read the post halfway up the fucking page, where blue chameleon said that PhD's lead to academic careers, not professional careers.

Sure if that is generally what your aunt does, then I probably won't dispute that she was offered one, but short of that a PhD is essentially a piece of paper worth tens of thousands of dollars that will advance your career about as much as 2 or 3 years work experience. (I'm not talking 2 or 3 grad years, I'm talking senior years).

It's not like a PhD will automatically bump your paycheck up a few million dollars, let alone the top tax bracket.

Businesses and how to run them: A PhD thesis by someone who wants "Doctor" in front of their name.

That's essentially the only reason people take up PhD's in 'business'.

How about we say, you have more of an opportunity if you have a PhD or MBA?
That still isn't necessarily true. For fucks sake read what blue chameleon posts.

yeah im more likely to agree to that...

but i don't think it gives someone that much of an advantage if they have a PhD. These days most employers doesn't put as much emphasis on PhD's as they probably did before and hence they wouldn't care as much whether or not you had one. And as some people have already mentioned PhD's is mainly for those that are looking for an academic career.
Okay if your're saying this.

Are you an employer?

How do you know what employers look for?

Actually, it is the 'doctors' who are insecure about having two bachelors degrees. They haven't got a doctorate and are called doctorate mainly because U.S. 'doctors' get an MD.

Regardless, PhD's in business are normally for academic careers in business schools. If anything, spending 3 years to get an academic qualification probably lessens your chances of finding 'normal' work because you have not gained full-time work experience.

I would love to achieve a PhD, just because i believe (apart from habilitation) it's the top academic status you can achieve in your given field.
It is the top academic qualification you can acquire. Saying "status" clearly indicates it is more of a status rather than knowledge issue for you. I may be mistaken, correct me.
It is wonderful to have people call you Doctor or Professor and have "PhD _______" after your name. But some of the most successful people in the world didn't even finish high school let alone go to university. Yet they are respected and their name rings a bell. You may have learnt in Business Studies this is called expert and referent power.
The only way to get the experience you want whilst studying at the same time is a cadetship. I believe applications are being accepted now. Apply and see how you go. As for the guy from Perth, I'd just go around and ask some companies. Ask your careers advisor and do some searches on the WWW.
The risks of a business failing are quite high. So even if you have a PhD in Business, there might not be anything you can do because you can't control the economy, value of the dollar and its effects on imports/exports, etc.

What were you considering doing a Phd arts in?
One of the Romance Languages, probably. I'm not even sure if I will still do an Arts degree. I was hoping for a combined Arts/Visual Arts degree. If I get into COFA, I'll do a B Design. I don't think you can combine this programme with another and even if so, it would be on the Kensington campus which would be a huge pain in the ass. B Design is already 4 years as it is.
Anyway. No PhD for me.

i don't know if this is true.
Even so, I'd still say there is a HUGE fucking gap b/w uni qualifications and a tafe one. Uni is a whole new level up from tafe.
Huge? The highest TAFE qualification is an Advanced Diploma. The next level would be a Bachelor degree.
Holy shit, most teachers have a Dip Ed. They should get a BEd!
More emphasis is put on experience, even if you graduated from some hell-hole no-name uni in the middle of no-where.

Would you bloody get over your aunt? She had an opportunity, we get it. What guarantees you and the next 234986324 people will get the same op? Bullshit. You take what you can get. If you refuse a job because you want a PhD, you're a fucking idiot. Unless you wanted to end up as a uni prof, otherwise it's a waste of time and money because it doesn't guarantee you a job and it has to come out of your own pocket. Heck, some uni profs only have a Masters but it's their experience that gets them the job.

EDIT: Like others have said, get your HSC first. Hell, you might fail uni altogether. It mightn't be for you. If you aim too high you'll just fall flat on your face.

Umm i forgot who posted so ill reply like this:

I think a PhD, would be great, although it would be purly for recognition, to be called Dr.

I am interested in academics, i would love to be a College professor, ofcourse i know you have to have experience in the field.

I plan on studying a BBA, then at the college i hopefully want to go to offers PhD and MBA's, so i'll make a decision.

This is the problem. Wrong reasons.
If you want that fancy air about you, go to Harvard. Might as well, you're planning way ahead.

I could really have a field day based on what you just wrote.

Its pretty damn obvious that you're looking at all of this based on MBA's and doctorates as some kind of sexy status symbols you feel the need to acquire, without having the faintest clue as to the work required, what they actually mean in terms of career progression, or how much it costs.

Look to get into uni first sunshine, because you're just going to be ridiculed by everyone talking about this here. That also applies to Michael.

I have read up a lot about MBA and more recently Phd, the link that i think it was you, put up was quite good.

I want to get a PhD because i thought it was the top of the field before i posted in here, having relised with all this feedback that it's apparently not, im looking at it differently, i do relise the progression of achieving this, its obviously not a walk in the park, and obviously it costs alot.
