but the ppl who are in top 5 are full evil, as in really really evil. theres this guy who ignores me.... thats like soooo evil already
then theres this math pro who i always try to scab knowledge off and hes always mumbling and reluctant to teach me, and over-summarising stuff.... everyone is so evil...

i wouldnt call any competition 'healthy' at this stage

i used to go to a selective school and left at the end of year 10 because i knew i would HATE the competition during the HSC & preliminary years... i moved to a co-ed public/govt school (yrs 11 & 12 only) and i thought it would be much better, but it isnt. i am constantly hearing people bitching about other people for the sole purpose that they get better marks than them, or there is some kind of jealousy, or something. sure, there are a lot of people who dont give a fuck, but my english class in particular (i do 4 unit) is REALLY bad--- people gossip about each other and complain about other people's attitude to classwork etc etc. i had one girl tell me recently that i deserved an N-award because i didnt show up to class enough - when ive missed about 3 classes all term? i hate this kind of competition.. it's obsessive and all it does is create an unhappier environment.. sometimes i just want to scream at people to get a fucking life, it wont be too long before their half-yearly rank in english ext 1 (or whatever) will mean NOTHING to them.

i go to a selective school. Competition makes everyone so very bitchy and back-stabby and generally pissed off. But without it we wouldn't do as well.

You must really take people on these forums as fools. Leaving at the end of year 10 because you fear it was going to be too competitive is the lamest excuse i've heard in years. You sure it wasn't because you weren't coping or maybe it was the fact you got kicked out?

PS: sorry about being such a bitch but the cold weather's getting to me.

Yeah our school is pretty competitve...

One guy nearly cried after the 3unit paper cause he missed 3 marks!!!

It was gold...

Someone then asked him about it and the competive guy threatened to bash him...

our school is somewhat competitive... u get a combination of people... but for me personally i find that the competition we do have is good because its makes everyone want to achieve better... and yes it can get bitchy but no one takes it personally... if it helps you perform... it helps you perform

losing three marks is a big deal considering the spread of marks for 3U maths in 2002 was only 9.4 out of 50.
Just to further make my point the spread of marks for 4U maths in 2002 was 4.7 out of 50

So...perhaps one should think twice before making fun of those who cry after exams.

actually beaky....what i posted initially might be a bit misleading. The mark spreads mentioned actually only consider the top 50% of the candidature. Nonetheless the figures are still quite stunning.

i got kicked out?? fuck off, i recieved the english and public speaking awards for the grade as well as several glowing references from teachers leading to an offer for early entrance placement to study english at UNSW (i declined).

perhaps it's 'lame' to you, but i am not a competitive person by nature. maybe i wasn't 'coping' by your definition; i didn't enjoy the intensely competitive nature of selective schools, i do not like comparing myself to other people. I HATED going to school every day. I didn't FEAR it was going to be too competitive during hsc years, i KNEW it would be. talking to people still at the school, i hear about constant fights and bitching amongst the grade pertaining to marks, rankings, and all that bullshit. are you seriously criticising me because i didn't want to play a part in that?

i dont know how you thought my post correlated with me finding people on the forum 'fools' - quite the contrary, if they can handle selective schools then more power to them! they are stronger than me! they will enjoy the benefits of the scaling and resources- but after reading your post i certainly thought less of some of the people on here.

i dont know why the fuck my post offended you so much you felt you had to reply with a post as harsh as that... but whatever.. you are probably a prime example of the kind of people i left the selective school system because of, but good luck to you in whatever you want to do... maybe such insanely elitist judgements will see you to success? whatever

p.s bitch, certainly. because of cold weather?; i doubt it.

i think our school has a good friendly competitive environment. Most people wants to beat the next guy... by all means possible... scabbing... leeching... lying ... cheating... friendships-breaking.... backstabbing.... sabortaging.... i think there are sum ppl that would kill to beat some1 in our school. so yes, just your average friendly competition

It can be really easy to make mistakes in maths...I'll be so confident during a test (e.g. my half yearly) and be totally shocked by where I went wrong...on the other hand, I felt like I failed my last assessment and wound up doing decently and coming second in the year....where is the logic in that?

Anyway, back to the real topic of the thread: our school is not too bad competitive-wise, although we do have a few ppl who are really serious and spend all (literally all hours aside from eating and sleeping and maybe a couple of other things) their time studying. Then they cry when they don't get what they consider to be a good enough mark. (Usually 90 something but if they don't get first, they're pissed.) Meanwhile, I'm a big procrastinator even though I do try my best in assessments and stuff usually and I came in the top three for all but one of my subs in the half yearly (came fifth for maths.) (Hope I'm not jinxing myself here but basically, yeah, we don't really stress much. Just live life how u can. :D
