Hi all,

I am a bit worried about the detrimental effect of continuing Year 12 at my current school. Would you recommend trying out for a selective school now? Your thoughts. Pros and cons?

Also, I would like to point out the matter of HSC subjects, so I would assume that I could theoretically change subjects after enrolling into a selective school. Is this correct?
OMG don't leave BWB... I swear your cohort is going to be better than our cohort since people there are more organized and more willing to study. You still have hope and your confidence is still great at our school.

If you do leave BWB then you might lose your confidence atm... that's thing about moving to a higher school. One of my leichhardt friends moved to syd tech and lost his confidence in most of his subjects..

Well what is it? Is it about the people at BWB or something? (besides I reckon you're the only one I know who will actually become dux at our school)

Plus I know you will get at least 98 anyway, even if you stayed at BWB, considering the ranks that you are atm in your subjects :p

I just want to try out to see where I am at. Even if I am scoring highly in my exams, in our school, I still won't where I am at.

That's the least of my worries, I am worried about what impact it will have on my HSC.

-Well first of all the competition will change dramatically.
-There will be a whole new learning environment where everyone is actually keen to learn
-But the bad thing is that your going to have tol eave all your friends and try and make new ones

I actually thought of applying for a selective school myself but im not really sure if its going to be good for me either :/

Then it would be a good environment for you.
But beware: right know im guessing your at the top of your year but when you change to a selctive school it goes to a whole new level. You may just become an average student in a selective school but it can give you more determination to do better

I am willing to self-accelerate.

Then i guess going to a selective school can be good for you but it will impact your social life dramatically. Even though you can keep in contact with friends from your old school (thats if you want to :L)

You've been sorely misguided over what we actually do in a selective school.

From what I heard in selective schools,

  • Students study at lunch.

  • Graffiti free toilets.

  • Free of noisy kids.

  • Nearly all students do 4 unit maths.
