If i were you i would tap on the glass window saying hurry the fuck up my train is about to leave. If the person keeps talking on the phone, i would smash the window to get attention. If the company tries to charge you with damage you can state that you were going to be late for an extremely imporant meeting (or some bull shit like that) and say that you wouldnt have to get the cashiers attention like that if they were doing there job correctly and the company provided proper facillities. Hmmm after typing all this ive realised that i can be a skits some times.

lol. yeah I felt like it, but I was third in line :/ the old lady at the front was too polite/weak wristed to pull that off, haha.

we all got on the train in the end so I guess it was alright. The train guard got the shits waiting for me to collect my change and sprint across the platform, though.

I have major respect for anyone who comes to work hungover. I know how much it sucks. If you can get away with it, good luck to them.

I had to catch a train from North Sydney the other night, which as anyone that lives on that side of town knows is a construction site mess. Anyway I could only use the ticket machines. There were 4 of them. The two smaller ones were out of order, one of the big ones had a sign attached to it saying "Does not give change" so I put my $2 in the other one as my fare was $1.50. The sale was cancelled as that machine too did not offer change... I didn't care for the 50 cents I would lose! It pissed me off that I couldn't just go through with the sale and lose the 50 cents. So I tried the other machine ignoring the sign saying it wouldn't give me change, which it did and got the train...I was tempted to get on without a ticket for the simple fact that CityRail is a shitty service. But then all of our transport is (ferries arent too bad) as are our hospitals and schools (public)... I always thought these were the areas that Labor specialised in...meh.

If you're rostered on over lunch be there on time. The reason you're rostered on is because we need you to be there to help.

Do the fucking cleaning properly. It is not the opening person's job to finish last night's cleaning. They have their own job to do without having to clean up your damn mess. Plus this is food you're dealing with, the store SMELLS if you don't clean it properly. If I can manage to clean properly and close the store on time while training someone to do the cash and with a newbie, so can you.

If there's a problem, tell someone so that it can be fixed. If you don't know the answer to a question ask me because I know.

One particular girl used to call up at 10am every tuesday (while the boss was in japan) and say she was sick and couldn't come in at 11am. Like fuck she was. Plus the late notice meant that we could never start the breaks on time, because nobody could make it into work in an hour. Luckily she's stopped doing that now.

But this is more bitching at the inadequacies of my fellow employees than anything else. I do forget that I've been at the store for much much much longer than them.
we get a lot of bastards calling in *sick* (bullshit) and that they cant open or close (convenient, for them not not clean huh).

I also had to train some trainees, while I was still a trainee (after 5 months), and they just fail at life, for example if there is oil spilt onto the floor, they will just walk through it for hours, before actually telling ME to clean it up, (its not that hard, seriously).

I have NEVER been late to work, and always come in when the managers beg me to, even work at other stores, when they call me, and what do I get in return, nothing.

Just the fact that I dont get told off, and I have to deal with 30-40 hours of work a week just at my store, WHILE im IN YR bloody 12!!!!!

again, rather than bitching about the problem/s you may have, would you be kind enough to suggest ways to better it? or are you just one of those who love to bitch but have no real ideas?

You know that you can have all the great employment-problem-solving ideas in the world but actually going about having them implemented is easier said than done, right? Especially if you're the lowest rung on the ladder as I imagine most people in our age group are. You can tell your coworkers to turn up on time and do their jobs properly until you are blue in the face but if they're the kind of person that fronts to work late and does a shit job they're probably the kind of person who will laugh in your face when you try to do something about their incompetence. Your boss, if they're any kind of manager, knows about the problem already and if they haven't taken steps to fix it, what are you supposed to do?

I'm not saying that all work problems are totally unfixable but I think you have a weird attitude towards this, like we can all just waltz into work with a little invisible broom and clean up all the problems with our coworkers.

re above,

first of all, i think the purpose of this thread is to point out the problems at work and ways to tackle it. some people choose to whinge about it by telling their stories, but in the end, i just hope that they also tell us how they've resolved the problems so that those who are in the same shoes can learn from it.

even though we don't have executive powers, we can make suggestions to our managers. certainly with some of the things i've commented, they've come from what we are actually doing at our workplace. i personally have been placed in situations of trust and supervision, so i exercised some of what i preached.

the point it, if you bother to whinge about it by posting here, surely you'd like to see it resolved and not happen again. so why not tell everyone how you did it, or if you'd like help with it. i'd hate to see this thread to go and become another version of the 'rules for customers' thread.

Were you not aware of the spill for a few hours too? Tell the person who informed you to clean it up.
edit: Or call the ECO team for shit like oil.

You get work. And they call you up often. Is that not fair in exchange?

Although I have to admit once the 2IC shouted me dinner because she called me during dinner time and begged me to skip dinner at home, which was already cooked, to work for 5hrs and close the store.

No-one told you to accept everything. You can refuse to work..

Oh.. we have this system where if you do a shit job, or do something which you're not meant to do, you get counselled or something.. then if you get counselled 2 or 3 times [with events which are directly linked at you, not the person you're responsible for] you get fired..

Some workplaces function really well because there are consequences like this.

Other workplaces do not. If staff are difficult to get, bosses tend to let things slide because they don't want to lose their employees. No matter how much it shits the people who actually do their job properly.

My old boss took way too much bad behaviour because she couldn't afford to hire uni students (who are generally more responsible), so she kept hiring deadbeat dropout teenagers.
