I'd really like to pick up EE2 - but the ultimate decision will be made based on my exam results. [Fingers crossed]

My current EE1 teacher recommends it, despite my mediocre results.

I'm having trouble deciding what to drop too :(
Basically i have:
Business Studies - top 3
Food Tech - 2nd
Chemistry - Top 10 somewhere
Mathematics - coming around 20th (i suck at this)
SOR 1 - 1st
Modern History - top 5 somewhere
Adv. English - Im doing alright

I want to pick up history extension, but no way am i going to do 14 units, so i need to drop one.
SOR is compulsory at my school, so i have to keep that, and i think i would either drop Business, food tech or chemistry
Well i dont like chemistry that much cause my teachers horrible, and i had the exam for it today and i believe i failed miserably, but i think i need to keep it for uni or something, and i do enjoy it to a degree, and cause it scales well. But then i have food tech which wont get me anywhere.
I just want peoples views, i like all my subjects and i honestly can't decide! What subjects will scale well and stuff?

Ooo i just realised i started a thread on this already.. i shuld really pay more attention.

Should I pick up English Extension 2 AND Japanese Extension??
Look, honestly, you're doing 15units. That's crazy and enough said.

But in response to your question this is what I've gathered about EX2 and JX1:

EX2:
  • As you know, there will be a major work so that means a lot of work involved throughout the year
  • EX2 develops on the refining of your creative writing skills which can be useful when writing things for Ad English and EX1
  • Make sure that you are prepared to do more English Homework every week and have more English lessons a fortnight (I can't stand that)
  • EX2 involves a lot of independent work and research, therefore, time and dedication
JX1:
  • As with any language course, it requires A LOT of dedication
  • JX1 is not about learning new structures, but learning how to apply structures to express your opinions. This can be beneficial in your writing exam for the Continuers Course and can only refine your knowledge of Japanese.
  • JX1 will make you more aware of the world as the topics are globally based.
  • You'll be analysing a movie, 'Spirited Away' and that should be lots of fun.
  • Scaling is much higher than EX2 (according to 2007 Figures)
All in all, I think you should go for JX1 over EX2. You're already doing enough English.

After the exams I am pretty sure that dropping Maths Extension would be logical.
Because the person topping it left the school a week ago (you might have read about it in the prefect controversy thread) I am topping it.
But my marks are too poor for me to continue with it.

So I'll be looking at
3 or 4 unit English
Mathematics
Bio
Chem
PDHPE

Still undecided about 4 or 3 unit English though.

I'm still undecided about my subject choices. After some consideration, I'm not sure if I'm going to drop Software Design at the present moment, because I want to do 4U maths, but if it's too hard then i need SDD to fall back on - because my school won't let you go onto 10 units.

For mine I'm pretty dead set on doing:
English Advanced
English Extension 2
Mathematics
Physics
Visual Arts
Modern History
total of 11 units

@cerys:
I think you should be able to do a short animation for ext 2, you'd have to talk to your teacher but I don't see why not. It'd have to be fairly high quality though I'd think, because you'd be spending the entirety of the HSC on it. It seems like the kind of thing more suited to visual arts, but I've heard of people doing short films before in ext 2.

Dropping Economics, so that leaves:
3u Maths
Physics
German
Modern
Adv English

I'm also choosing between:
Ext History
Ext German
Ext 2 Maths

Any suggestions as to which? Does anyone know their relative scaling "merits"?

Ugh, I have 14 Units currently with,

Advanced Maths
Maths Ext. 1
Advanced English
English Ext. 2
Modern History
History Ext. 1
Visual Arts
Chemistry

At this rate, I'll either drop Visual Arts or Chemistry, depending on the progress of my BOW.
I'm still not very sure though. Dilemma! UGH! D:

Ext Maths is the highest scaling subject? Only 3 subjects: MX1. MX2 and Latin scale up if you're average.

I'd say keep Software Design. What's your motive for dropping it?

Nope. It all depends on your raw mark. Higher it is, the higher the relative scaling it will be.

I don't think you can get scaled up with 70 in mx2...you probably need 90+

And as long as I am aware, mx1 never scales up except 99 or 100.

Pretty much same with Latin, except Latin Extension.

How on Earth do you get a 90+ in MX2? That's like .. :burn:

Hmm well you've got relatively high scaling subjects - not too sure about German. I'd take Ext 2 Maths - that's probably the highest scaling subject.
