During all this I went out every weekend played organized sport almost every day of the week, held down a job and played Youth League basketball.
The only thing i sacrificed was my school work and even then i had enough time to do that i just chose not to.
seriously it's not hard to do.
will probably have an OVA or two placed after the series i'd say.
Since no one else has mentioned it yet, Hajime no Ippo is something you guys should all look into.

The manga is nearly 900 chapters and the anime has just started a new 2nd season after a 6 or year hiatus.

yeah I've been watching the new series (saw the old one a while ago)
They are both quite good and I second this recommendation to check it out.
Also as far as new stuff goes:
K-ON! (Keion!) - Really enjoyable series so far IMO, It's a slice of life/comedy series based around a group of 4 girls who are the only members of the light music club.
Higashi No Eden (Eden of the East) - A girl traveling in America winds up in a spot of trouble with the police but is 'saved' by fellow Japanese running in on the scene stark naked brandishing a gun and a cell phone. One thing leads to another and the two end up heading back to japan together, the major catch is that the guy has no recollection of who he was before he met her and that his phone is a swipe card with 8 billion yen pre-loaded onto it. Looks as though it is going to develop some darker undertones as the series progresses on.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009) - I really don't think FMA needs any introduction in an anime thread, basically this series is a redo designed to be more in line with the manga. Definitely worth watching.

Basquash - Mecha Bball anime. Seems like a pretty cool anime so far.
Valkyria Chronicles - Anime based off the game. Seems really interesting so far and employs a similar colouring effect to the game.
Dragon Ball Kai - DBZ Redone from ep 1. Remastered, and fillers cut out. would recommend if you are a DBZ fan.
Also,

zomg, I was just randomly flicking through channels yesterday, and I found code geass on abc2 =O best anime ever, monday 9:30pm... even though ive finished R1 by watching it online, theres no harm in watching it again ^^

Although Dragon Ball Z is nowhere near one of my favourites. its the only anime that has made such a mainstream impact, Ask anyone. they'll at least recognise the name of it. Anyway my personal fave is BleachI'm sorry, but I'm going to have to kick you due to the statement made in the first sentence of your response.
DBZ? Are you insane? Dodgy characters, poor animation, zilcho plot, and far-too-obviously-over-the-top Uber special moves, ne?
