Puh-lease exploin.
The liberals have next to no chance of winning the next election, really. Abbott will be the fall guy. If Hockey took leadership now, he'd lose next election, then within the opposition there'd probably be another leadership spill. Hockey's a better asset than Abbott to the liberals.

lesser of two evils, etc etc

ie. I'd love to see the liberal democratic party in power (awesome classical liberal/libertarian party) but they're lucky to get like 1% of the vote so I'd rather use my vote to help keep Labour out of power by helping a liberal get across the line
Absolutely, whats a child in detention or an innocent muslim facing deportation when there is hardcore internet porn at stake.

What's Muslims getting deported when there's, you know, the entire economy at stake.

My dad was talking up Abbott, so we got into a massive fight, that ended in me pretending to believe in climate change. Oh classic.

hmmm... disappointed that turnbull lost - abbott strikes me as someone who won't be able to handle the leadership - hope there's another leadership spill by the next election. Thank god it wasn't hockey with dutton as deputy cause dutton is a dud.

Unfortunately this is the attitude most people take and this is why our system is changing slowly. Every vote counts, with increasing percentages of the votes going to the small people the higher number of people will be voting for them thus the two-party system will slowly be ruled out

Depends, if you actually believe in freedom its massive. If you're just a greedy person who hides behind the facade of being a libertarian, nothing.

Rudd has fucked up immigration, and shown himself to be just as susceptible to a knee jerk response to asylum seekers as his predecessor.

At least you knew where Howard stood, what does Rudd even think about asylum seekers? Is he only treating them mean because it's the cool political thing to do, or does he genuinely dislike boat people?

No one knows.

Tony Abbott is a creep, are they nuts??? At least Joe Hockey is down to earth and has charisma. If pushed he could appeal and seem relatable to the masses in the same way Kim Beazley did for Labour (didn't do them much good electorially though...). Even Turnball, despite the fact he reeked of elitism, could actually pass as a human being. Abbott will make the Liberal Party seem even more out of touch with the everyday concerns and general views of the Australian people.

i dont understand why they cant just pass the ETS, show up at copenhagen waving the sheet around saying Australia is serious about climate change so you guys should be aswell then make changes to the ETS depending on the world leaders decision.

i mean wtf at least labor is trying to do something about climate change, its pretty obvious the majority of the opposition are sceptics

What you fail to understand is the ETS isn't going to help fight climate change, the government is going about it the wrong way. Renewable energy is the only method that is going to secure our future as well as make effective indents into our carbon emissions. The Howard government were going to institute one by 2012 and it is the same with Rudd, both parties are just opposing for the sake of opposing rather than seeing the big picture and going for long-term improvement rather than short-term.

I didn't know where Howard stood, he told me he was going to keep interest rates at record lows, he told me the GST was dead and burried, he told me, He told me that they were throwing the children overboard to force a rescue. Whatever defences of John Howard one might be able to make transparency was not one of them.
