Blatant cheating/malpractice is not acceptable under any circumstances, in my opinion. It's a widespread problem at my school.
Oh man don't get me started on this issue. I've heard worst at other schools. But at the end of the day, HSC is not a test of intelligence, it is an exam to test how well people have studied and prepared.

I don't like it when people say hsc is not a test of intelligence, it seems to be an excuse in a way. It's a combination of hard work and intelligence and I think it is slack to discredit high achievers by saying anyone can do what they are doing with enough hours put in, which is definitely not true

CSSA trials mark overall rank

english 97/105 1st or 2nd overall (final assesment handed in for marking)
maths 2u 95/100 1st overall
maths 3u 58/70 1st overall
biology 84/100 1st overall (trial mark could be like 92 but i lost so many dumb marks)
business studies 91/100 1st overall
SOR 2unit 85/100 1st overall (lost 8 marks for not talking about variants which i dont agree with. did anybody else get the same treatment for both the christianity 20 marker and the peace essay)

very happy with business, maths 2u and english. hopefully i can get similar marks in the HSC
3u, biology and business i definitely need some more improvement

you guys are actual beasts, how do you guys do so well?! (don't answer, you'll make me feel bad for not putting enough effort)
i was going to put up my ranks, but compared to you guys, i couldn't stand a chance to get above 90.

I only know four right now for overall rank.

SOR2 : 3rd/48
ENG: 9th/87
CAFS: 3rd/24
CHEM: 19th/28 (I know, totally wrecked it by my failure in trials)

Bio is probably around 15/53 but I'm unsure :(

School rank is around 110-115

You should get over 90.

Yeah...you sorta do and you definitely need school rank.
school rank would give a lower bound, but not an upper bound. and cohort size would do absolutely nothing if hes coming first in everything

Although it gives no upper bound, it can give a general idea as to what ATAR the dux of previous years may have achieved.

Then again, it ultimately depends on the student.

Take this example
Student 1 at rank 600 school that has never gotten any DA:
ESL:1/1
Geography: 2/2
Chemistry:1/1
Maths 2U: 1/3
CAFS: 1/2
ATAR Estimate: can be anything from 30 to ~98 but considering the school's record, probably anything in between 50 and 70.

Student 2 at Ruse:
English Advanced: 1/200
Maths Extension 2: 2/70
Maths Extension 1: 1/150
Physics: 1/120
Chemistry: 1/120
ATAR Estimate: 99.95

Even if you made them have the same subjects (AZN5), student 1 would have totally different estimate.

poor example, but I get what you are trying to say. What I am saying is that having cohort size and school rank of a first place in everything student doesn't make your estimate any more accurate when in coming to a conclusion other than giving a lower bound. ok i dont wanna argue any more.
