Why does a cohort have to drag you down, even if you did good in external exams? (2 Viewers)

My school is full of incredibly stupid individuals in math advanced. (49 avg) these clowns will be dragging me down since i'm not the 1st ranker. (calling them stupid cause they had the choice to drop, yet stayed merely because they wanted to stay with their friends. My advanced cohort should in reality only have like 5 people, yet there are 40)(top 5 marks for the trials were (98, 97, 92, 85, 79) as you can see, it greatly diminishes, almost exponentially). Who is the absolutely fucking retard that thought of this system? Not only is it unfair and isn't a true representation of your achievement, it promotes a fucking hell lot of inequality. Imagine a suburb like mount druitt. If you're in a school full of fucking idiots and there are only two smart kids, you being the second, you're going to fucking get a shit mark because these drop kicks will drag you down. The system should be like A Levels. 100% of the mark comes from the external assessment. HSC is inherently discriminatory to people who aren't in selective schools and low social economic suburbs by its design. Aboriginal kids are getting way less band 6s not because they are dumb and did bad on externals, its because they are forced to get dragged down by the whole community because of this racist system.

You fucking woke people care about inequality and preach it yet you make a system where high achieving students marks are able to be comprimised by a poor cohort, caused by being in a poor area or non selective school, because apparently making students share marks external on an exam marks is a good idea. Proof that the uneducated run the education system. No other fucking school system in the world does this peculiar bullshit. China's gaokao scores are based on an external exam A levels scores are based on multiple external exams.

To make things clear, imagine being 2nd ranked internally in Rooty Hill High School, with an external mark of 85, and the 3rd internal ranker's external mark is a 45. Guess who's average you will be taking? Not the first, you will be taking this retard's average, for an average external mark of 65. Hope you understand why its flawed.

Can the scaling also be set in fucking stone? Just because a bunch of retards join a course, doesn't mean it should be scaled lower this year.
you don't get dragged down as long as you are enough of an outlier with rest of the top ranks

bro are you munted??

who's fault except YOURS is it to rank 5 at that 'shitty' school that you claimed it is to be.
the government system is not flawed, your brain is flawed 💀

its your fault that you should have tried harder, how are you calling people dumb when they literally beat you? sounds like you are a bit salty. Instead of coping this hard, why don't you go study to save yourself from a mystery mark 😭
lmao? I'm pretty sure I beat her since trials were heavier, still I will have to share her external mark since my rank is around hers.

exactly, they aren't any harder compared to other schools and they also are easier than hsc exam. Knew it had to do with the fact that the actual smart people do extension 2 and 1.
ok. go and do a ruse 2u paper for at1,at2,at3 and get 100% on all of them. come back to this.

i actually get what you mean because you feel like your rank isnt proportional to your ability. the same thing happened to me, i messed up my trial and lost 1st because i was sick. while the marks and ranks were much closer together in my situation its disheartening to know that your true academic ability and likely performance in the hsc isnt completely reflective in ur rank and your mark will be moderated. Again i think you should just move on with it now and focus on getting the best mark u can and pushing the others ranked above you

not even close to being true. if ur so cracked just get 1st place externally, that way the 4 people internally above you will be below you externally. and you can get their mark since they're good aswell

stop complaining and just do it!

you could use the same logic tho

since your rank isn't proportional to your ability, why would you external mark be?
It's sad that your rank dropped due to you being sick, however, you could be sick on the day of the HSC? Who's to save you there? In that sense, the HSC or any exam isn't reflective of your ability.

yeahhhh.

so wouldn't this mean the person getting 96% at james ruse interally will get the same hsc mark as the person getting 96% at mt druitt high internally? that means since the tests are basically the same, their abilities are the same.

because every test is the same difficulty... right ???????

The thing is, the hsc is an standardised test that the whole state is doing on the same day after a long holiday, meaning you had good preparation for it. Also for my school, every assessment task besides trials were conducted at different times for different classes, meaning that some people got to cheat since they did the test later and were told what was in them, hence they could have gotten a higher rank through that (not that any of these cheaters managed to beat me). This goes to show internal assessments are flawed.

I'm fine with internals weighing 50% of your HSC mark, however as nonya2000 said, the ranking system is absolutely ridiculous, my "internal mark/grade" shouldn't be based on what other people get. Ranking shouldn't have a play in this system imo. If I get a overall 80 in my internal, and 90 in external, hence my HSC mark should be 85, simple.
this could be good, except for the fact that some internals are easier based on the school, so it’s hard to make it fair. ranking gives you the same regardless of how hard the internals are.

No, she only did good on small topic tests, I can confidently say I'm smarter than that dumb bitch. Plus I got 100% on all topic tests except one which was a 75%, hence I'll share a mark with this dumb bitch even though I performed way better than her in trials.
she could say the exact same thing except that she did way better than you in all her topic tests, and only messed up in trials - see how you’re both the same? if she was really that dumb she would be doing worse than you

literally the stupid english assessment prevented me from preparing properly. Lead was also in my water supply

How are externals flawed? It's unbiased since everyone is taking the same test at the same time.

womp womp, deal with it. If you get in a car crash, you can walk to school or ask someone to send you. If I had monkey pox, I would still go to school to do the hsc cause I want an actual mark - not a teacher estimated mark.
