This may seem like a stupid question, but does anyone have any experience working as a retail assitant type person in a butcher? I'm wondering whether to take a job I got offered as it it is really good pay, hoping I'm not the only girl :confused:and don't have to chop meat, haha.

Thanks

i haven't worked in a butcher myself, but i know several people who do, and as females they don't chop the meat. they just handle it when serving customers and such.

i'd say give it a go, and if you have any qualms speak to your employer :)

well yes, i understand that. but cutting the meat in the cases that i'm aware of (two local butchers), require using machinery that the males are better able to use. it's not as though it's in their contract to limit them to that, but rather just the way it works out practically speaking.
Also very sexist. Anybody can use machinery if they are shown/told how to....

Not necessarily racist, just a fact that guys are better suited for certain jobs and girls for others. eg: most contruction workers are male, most receptionists are female.

I thought only qualified butchers or apprentices only chopped meat? So if you weren't being trained you were customer service only...

make sure you're in the books.

ie not paid with cash.

that way you'd be covered with workcover in case of a workplace injury...

notice i didn't use the word 'accident'
