During high school I mostly kept to myself because everyone around me were idiots. :read: Intellectually I was their superior in every way. Hence, I felt no need to interact with them. However, recently I have been feeling very lonely as I have not left my house since the HSC. Should I try to make more friends in uni or focus on my studies?

It is important to try and make friends in university for a lot of reasons, if you think you will be superior to everyone in uni you will also have something else coming. I suggest that you attempt to get a social life going (for networking, assistance, reminders about deadlines etc.) whilst also focusing on your studies

Coming from someone who used to be in your position, being lonely sucks and negatively effects many aspects of your life including your studies and having a social life is very beneficial to your wellbeing whilst fun at the same time

Your attitude needs fixing honestly, you have to learn to value people as equals and not just merely tools.

I say this because I was also in a similar position as you, albeit a lot younger.

Focus on socialising more, but of course don't leave your studies behind. You will truly find happiness in building long lasting relationships with others, and university is one of the better times to learn it. Join a couple of clubs, find others with common interests etc.

You will make mistakes, but that's part of the learning process.

What's the point of money if it can't buy you true happiness?

Goodluck! :)

You'll definitely meet people who are intellectual equals or superiors, so you'll have no problem there.

My opinion would be that you make friends and immerse yourself in a variety of social activities. It's definitely possible to balance life and fun after all.

I don't know about that. However, I am thinking of trying to be social. Will any of you be my friend?

OP just from reading your posts in this thread I have no doubt that your mind is beyond anything some one in university could comprehend.

I recommend focusing on your studies and pushing the boundaries of mankind even more as your inferior peers will just drag you down.

Hey if you try to make more friends you will feel more meaningful about ur uni life.

I have been there. All studies in first year. Yes I got a high WAM and Dean's list award... but when I recall my first year , there is nothing left , all I can recall is the heavy workload of studies/pressure! That ain't no right.

I joint a music society in 2nd sem 2nd year and made lots of friends. I leant how to sing properly so won't die the next day after karoke. As a choir member, participated in the soeciety's autumn evening show. Soooo happy to be with my teammates! After each choir session, I remained behind with some friends and I played the piano while they sang some pop songs! It was really fun!!
I taught in PASS sessions and talked to many more students, feeling really rewarding. Lots of them told me that I helped them quite a lot and did really well in the exam.

Now I think of my last semester all I can feel is the happiness. No pain no stress. (Althoughh studies in this sem are heavily heavy . eg consolidation lol)
So ye I will def participate in more extra curri next sem OMG

All people at my school were idiots as well - Iwas the only smart one. Although there were not many people in my grade, I was the only one to go to University (UWS).

NO NO NO!!! definitely don't make friends. Friends are not only mean and evil creatures who will waste your time and communication energy, but will also be destructive to your potential. Here is how:

1) You are so academically advanced and your friends evidently aren't, so you'll be trying to keep on their level and get dumber
2) You'll be insulting your intelligence by fraternising with the enemy, i.e. mere mortals who exist only to exploit your mental prowess
3) Friends will want to "spend time" with you on purpose so that you waste your time and their GPA gets higher!!

Moral of the story, don't make friends. Its just not worth it :/ I learnt it the hard way
Omg haha
