SO basically, my subjects are are all general and humanitarian = Legal studies, Society and Culture (100% dropping in year 12), Business Studies, PDHPE, GENERAL Maths, & STANDARD English

I'm in a private school, In year 10, my teachers were discouraging students from choosing higher level subjects for year 11 and not teaching us about the importance of subject scaling, telling us not do to certain subjects because it will be "harder" due to the syllabus change. (eg, Advanced English and Maths 2 unit)

My question is, will it be too late if I change from Legal Studies to Biology when I'm currently in the middle-end of Term 2 in year 11. Will it be possible to catch up on all the content? I want to change because I really am struggling in Legal studies and the scaling is pretty low. Biology will scale a little higher and give a better ATAR outcome.

Guys I really need help :(

Im quite certain that you are not allowed to change your subjects now. Because you basically only have 1 term (term 3) till HSC starts. Let me tell you that Bio is not easy, It's considered to be harder than legal studies. Scaling won't matter if your unable to score decently in Bio, and as you are already behind It will be extremely difficult for you to score decently and thats only If your school allows you to change your subjects which is unlikely at this time.

Stick with legal studies, Its much easier. Year 11 is a trial run so don't worry about what marks you have gotten up to now. Over the holidays, search up on new ways to study for legal studies. There are a lot of guides online which can help you. Can you be more specific on what part of legal studies are you finding difficult. Is it the essays? or is it memory retention for exams?

I have connections with the principal so changing the subjects don't concern me.
On the atar calculator, If I get a 75 in legal studies as a HSC mark, it will scale down to a 49.8 towards ATAR. However bio has potential to scale higher, so that's my reasoning as to why I want to change. My overall would help me achieve higher for my ATAR

Sure Bio scales higher, But its also more difficult to score on. Bio has a lot of information that you will have to remember, plus practicing past paper questions which are not as predictable as the two essay questions you get in legal studies. Overall, from what Ive heard Biology is much more time consuming and difficult.

Don't think that a 75 in legal studies is equal to a 75 in bio. To achieve a 75 in bio you will need to work harder than you would have to achieve 75 in legal studies.

Doing prelim and HSC in a single year at TAFE is also a possible option.

Where can I find out more? I'm thinking of doing this for Engineering Studies, because it's a lot better than one of the courses I'm currently doing in school (IPT).

Look at your Local TAFE and see if they offer HSC courses.

Hi! I really liked learning bio in year 12 but year 11 bio was really boring. Imo barely of the year 11 content was in the year 12 course but I don't fully remember (2 years ago) but I'm pretty sure they're like separate courses - with year 11 focusing on plants and stuff while year 12 focused a lot on humans. I assume it hasn't changed TOO much with the new syllabus but it may have. Your choice though, make sure to check the year 11 and year 12 syllabus for biology to see if it overlaps much if you do decide to change.
