I'm also doing Plath and Hughes and been struggling a lot, esp with comparisons between Plath's 'Fever 103' and Hughes' 'Fever.' The titles are similar, but the content in the poems is so different that I legit don't know what sort of thesis you can build between them.

I mean, for most of their poems, its Plath using the moments of her life to comment on bigger pictures, like the oppressive nature of the patriarchy from the perspective of a woman in the 1960's. And Hughes takes her motifs and changes the narrative. For me personally, in Fever 103, I saw the bigger pictures as Plath commenting on the hellish standards of 'purity' set on women. Hughes' response kind of diminishes her suffering, suggesting that she might be overreacting for no reason. He attempts to see reason with her perspective, but ultimately paints her as an irrational fanatic.
I totally see that and it makes Hughes' parts of the module so hard to get through (excluding the fact that Sylvia Plath is just a better writer). At the same time, I kinda feel like Fever is almost in a regretful perspective, esp with the last stanza where he was like "I said nothing. I said nothing.", where he acknowledged his failings in their relationship. All his other poems are really the same thing. Because of Plath's poems, her readers pinned Hughes as the main cause of her trauma and death, and Hughes' 'Birthday letters' is nothing but a response to 'Ariel' as an attempt to clear his name during this time (although he really enforces how shitty he is imo lmao). So he's really taking her exact motifs in each poem - the ones which describe her struggle against the patriarchy - and turning these motifs against her to make her suffering seem unreasonable. He does this with almost all his poems.
