its not that close to the hast q style its a bit more subtle rather than straight forward like edutest
Yeahhhh the answer is much less obvious and unlike edutest where it’s 60min for 30 questions it’s like 40 minutes for 30 questions (i think) so each question matters MUCH more

thats so much better
Me personally i find it worse cause (especially on reading section last year) i got stumped on sooo many questions

But this year i started reading books and in naplan i think i cooked super hard in reading so i guess that means im better at English than math now yikes

Also writing section is annoying cuz last year i got persuasive WHICH NOBODY ASKED FOR and yeah i got middle 50% (if it was narrative I would’ve made Sydney tech and saw @clockiework but wtv)

year 7 to year 8. I haven't got my reports yet. But my selective results were 10,15,15,25. Excs are chess club, debating club, robotics club, cricket representatives, piano, swimming and im planning on joining some volunteering stuff.

Damn how’d u not make selective in year 7 that seems good enough

Also for girraween, when my friend applied for year 8, he told me there were like 120 kids competing for like 1-5 spots. I do remember last year seeing more year 8 entry applicants than year 10 entry applicants even tho year 10 entry had a new class I was so shocked 😭

But yeah honestly I think you’ve heard people say this before but 2 strong excs are better than 5 random ones cause when they question u about it, there’s so much more u can say in the interview. However ur excs look strong enough, so don’t waste time volunteering if ur only doing it for ur portfolio (trust me). I think the way it works is there’s a threshold for the hast test (eg must get above 15% overall to be considered), then they see your school report, and then the excs are there for small boosts or tiebreakers. Unless the excs is something crazy like a state wide kinda thing, I don’t think it’ll have too much impact, it just helps u stand out among every other applicant solely applying cause it’s a ‘smarter school’.

Honestly ur year is the hardest year to make cause no schools open spots unless someone leaves AND it has the highest amount of kids applying. Unless your reports are straight As (1 or 2Bs max) and you do crazy in the hast (top 10% overall), there’s little to no chance you can make it because of the amount of competition u got. Don’t feel discouraged cause next year, James ruse opens 30 spots and when I went to sit the exam there, I saw kids from other selectives (nsb, baulko, nsg) applying and making it, so instead of applying for jr I actually recommend applying for selectives like baulko cause their kids will make jr and then there’ll actually be like 10 spots even tho they don’t make a new class which is crazy but a hack I wish I knew.

Overall tho theres like a 90% chance u won’t make it this year so don’t feel discouraged cause at least u know what the exams feel like so then u can bounce back next yr

well penrith had a lot of competition. Thank you for your answer. Well Normanhurst is a bit far, but I think I can manage it. Will definitely look into it. Thank you!!
