2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

I assume that the idea is: Broadband expansion = economic growth = higher total earnings = higher tax revenues = more money for the Future Fund.

marks needed to transfer to law at syd

Depends on your UAI. The higher your UAI was, the lower your uni marks need to be, because they two are weighted evenly in their calculation. They officially say that a UAI 96+ and a distinction average would be competitive, but I don't know how accurate that is. (I'm hoping their overall...

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

It's infrastructure investment, not pure expenditure, yes? A better broadband network would, I assume, bring economic rewards over time. In any case, this is probably more a political tactic to contrast Labor's positive policy-making, commitment to nation-building, etc etc to the pool of sleaze...

Labor launches $4.5b broadband policy: http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200703/s1877739.htm Costello launches into almost ridiculous hyperbole re same: http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200703/s1878045.htm

    esearch to research

It's one of those librarian things where they get really really excited occasionally and use heaps and heaps of exclamation marks for no apparent reason!! But it's sort of useful to learn the wildcard characters for the library catalogue, and the stuff about locating journal articles. Webct...

    Semester I Chatter Thread (2007)

Re: Semester I 2007 - Chatter Thread! Anyone got any idea where the Quad Greek Room is? I have a tute there tomorrow and I don't feel like wandering aimlessly around the quad for hours trying to find it.

    which uni?

Why not? I know plenty of people who go there, they like it fine.

2007 State Election - Labor or the Coalition/Iemma or Debnam?

Orkopoulos. Why is that a failure of the Iemma government? He was (allegedly, since I don't believe he's yet been convicted) a criminal, but that's got nothing to do with NSW Labor. I agree. Hate that practice. However, it's not new, nor is it exclusive to NSW Labor. (Remember 'Strengthening...

    Call to stop Muslim immigrants

It's a phone poll - I think they call it 'Voteline'. Practically no one ever takes part. Not to be an elitist about it, or anything.

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

I think that the perception of the NSW Liberal frontbench not being capable is to do with the fact that we never see them. I don't believe that being a minister is something you necessarily need oodles of experience to do, since you have an enormous public service and the Cabinet advising you...

    Call to stop Muslim immigrants

Democracy would win if the CDP had substantive policies other than 'no gays', 'no heroin injecting rooms' and 'no Moslems [sic]'. Wow. That's big of Fred and friends.

    Spooks

Fourth season, just started tonight. (Now almost two years old, so thanks heaps, ABC.) Reasonably good episode, I thought, but nowhere near as good as the average episode in Season 3. The Shining Dawn plotline seems to have some teeth, though, so hopefully it'll get better.

2007 Federal Election - Coalition or Labor/Howard or Rudd?

Boy, they're really dropping like flies at the moment. At this rate almost the entire parliament will have resigned within a year. I'm not sure if I'll be able to cope with politics next week. I can think of few things worse than a political ethics frenzy.

2007 State Election - Labor or the Coalition/Iemma or Debnam?

    1. He'd pretty much take up the reins as premier straight away, being sworn in along with the rest of the ministry after a few days (if it's anything like what happens at federal level). He can start making executive decisions straight away, but he can't pass laws and so on until parliament...

    Call to stop Muslim immigrants

OK, how about this. We arrest, charge, try and imprison the people who have committed these crimes. We let people who have not committed these crimes, or any other, live in peace. We don't discriminate based on perceived racial/religious attributes. We work towards bringing disaffected young...

2007 State Election - Labor or the Coalition/Iemma or Debnam?

Moral of the story: don't bother listening to commentators. The majority of them are clueless and simply recite received wisdom instead of actually thinking about things.

    Semester I Chatter Thread (2007)

Re: Semester I 2007 - Chatter Thread! The thing with the no reader and the no textbook and the 'lectures are more to stimulate your own research than to teach you' made me sceptical. I'm just hoping that the fairly short essays and the take-home exam make up for it.

    Dude, Theatresports

Out of interest, what are Hermann's and Manning's policies on under-18s? Are us young'uns allowed in as long as we don't drink, or are they those places where people under 18 are considered too immature to even be in the presence of alcohol?
