None are reported, they won't know unless you tell them. So these people have probably just heard through informal networks.

I only know about USyd. They offer an automatic scholarship of $5,000 p.a. to anyone who gets 99.95+, the same value as their undergraduate scholarship, the highest tier of the scholarships which you have to apply for. AFAIK, 99.90 counts for nothing :p ... oh well.

That's exactly right, but unless it put extra demands on teaching time or whatever, the amount of less motivated students taught by a school shouldn't affect the number of high achievers it has ... it would have more affect on the overall average results.

It does go to that person for their assessment mark (50% of the total HSC mark), but you also keep it for YOUR exam mark (also worth 50% of the total).

Although I am a real supporter of public education, you'd have to consider that public schools teach more than half the students.

Someone I know was ranked (equal) first in economics at her school. Her exam mark was 96, but her assessment mark was only 94. How could this happen? I thought that if you were ranked first, you would be guaranteed to get the highest exam mark, which in this case would have been (at least) 96.
