    11 or 13 units?

Yeah, ideally I'd be doing 10 units, and so would xMrRand0m - but our school won't let us have less than 11 units - and since we both currently have 13 units - it's a choice between 13 or 11.

looking 4 friends to talk on msn...

We had a thread like this mid-last year. Most people won't share their msn's online. I know I publically won't. If you want my MSN - PM me and most likely I'll give it you you through there.

    Truongs Maths Tutoring, any comments?

Re: Truong's tutoring, any comments? Well said. If you don't like the way he teaches - then fine, you're free to do so. All we're saying is that we're happy with his methods and that they work for us.

I think it's designed for Year 12s, but I know mid-September they will have workshops for preliminary students.

10 units... is it too risky?

I would drop. If having an extra 2 units is affecting the way you cope with the main 10 units - then I would highly advise dropping, because you need to do all you can to ensure you do not stuff up your top 10 units. I posted this on another thread and I'll say it again, but do not retain an...

    11 or 13 units?

No point relying on physics as a backup. It's better if you drop and just focus on doing well on all your subjects. I mean why prepare for stuffing up your other units when you can try and prevent stuffing up? But yeah - even if you don't use the study period, being able to relax and not have...

Starting 3 Unit Maths this Year? Like to find some friends to study with? Post Up

The majority of schools use Maths in Focus (especially public schools and private schools which do not have a strong maths department). My school uses New Senior Mathematics by Fitzpatrick - and I think it's really good. Pretty good theory and the exercises are good practice for me. As for the...

Free HSC Half Yearly Exam Workshops

Yeah - I'm going with a few friends from school + some people on BOS. From my experience last year - it was good in refreshing your memory and teaching you the very basics. But yeah - they're notes are mainly just a summary of the Excel textbooks.

    Any asians doing general maths?

Probably 70% of my school is asian, and we have 5 general classes - so therefore a large portion of asians are doing general maths. However as expected, we only have like 3 non-asians in the top 3U class and an all asian class in 4U.

Thanks Andrew. Congrats on your ranking in english - that's awesome for english (well for me it is anyway). Also I reckon you should've moved up in maths - you're so good =) But don't let that affect you.

    Acceleration and policies?

Most schools will tick you off as completing the preliminary content. I know my school said I did the preliminary and hsc content simultaneously in 2008.

    Should i do extension english?

The important thing to ask yourself is - do you enjoy english? If yes - then by all means take up Extension English. But if the answer is no - then don't. I took up Extension English in the Preliminary and I didn't like it so I ended up dropping because I don't like English.

How much study do u do in Holidays?

True that. What's important is what you do from now to October. But it would've helped if you did some work in the holidays. I did my study notes for the first topic in each subject and also worked ahead for 3U/4U maths.

Recommended Texbooks/Study Guides for Preliminary HSC?

I'm not sure if he has an actual textbook - but I know he released a '2U HSC Practice Question by Topic' book - which I found extremely helpful when studying for my HSC.

True - I think there's only ~ 27 Band 6s up for grab for Standard English in the HSC. Don't quote me on this though - I could be wrong.

    Study Discussion

I think - do a few in your spare time, but when studying for an exam - let's say... 3 weeks before - get rid of your textbook questions and rely ONLY on past papers/past paper questions sorted by topic. Well that's what I think for Maths anyway. Never tried with other subjects.
