    velocity and acceleration involving integration

    Let v = dx/dt Therefore a = dv/dt Using the chain rule: dv/dt = dv/dx . dx/dt But dx/dt = v Therefore acceleration = v.dv/dx I_F

Determining whether a curve is increasing or decreasing at a given point

It requires a little more intepretation. If they say "where x=2", that pretty easy, but if they say "at the point (2,5)", it makes you have to think that little bit more. I_F

    Help on Financial Account!

Balance of payments statistics change from year to year. The current acount deficit is current $56.9 billion, up from about $43 billion this time last year. These statistics do not stay static, and one of the reasons Leading Edge puts out a new textbook each year is to keep their statistics as...

    Help on Financial Account!

I believe it means that in size, Portfolio Investment is much larger than direct investment - several times larger. Remember that when we talk of surplus and deficits, it's [credit] - [debit]. The surplus thing means that portfolio investment from overseas into Australia is $4.4 billion larger...

Thanks kami, A l for correcting me. I just thought that if you accelerated 2-unit, you'd keep that mark if you went on for 4-unit. No, says the Board. I_F

Determining whether a curve is increasing or decreasing at a given point

If the curve is increasing, the derivative is positive. If the curve is decreasing, the derivative is negative. In these questions, derive the functions to find their gradient, then substitute in the x value given to find if its positive or negative. I'll do the first one: a) y = x4 - x3 at...

    Predicting radioactive decay

If the number of protons is above 83, the element generally emits alpha particles. This is because the nucleus is too big for the strong nuclear forces to hold the atom together. If there are too many neutrons (neutron to proton ratio greater than 1:1 for low molecular weight elements, or...

    Sydney Uni study day

I'd post what I'm wearing, but I won't decide till just before we go (we have to leave at 5:30AM!! Stupid living in middle of nowhere. :(). I would think that a few schools are going. The AoS is a big chunk of HSC English, and most people need all the help they can get. I_F

    Molar volume

Your answer is correct. I would assume that the answer given is wrong or is calculated using the older values for volume (i.e. 24.5L for 25C and 100kPa, given in Conquering Chem 3rd edition). I_F

    HSC Assessments- Thoughts/Results

Not neccesarily. Your marks will be moderated according to how well your class goes as a whole. So your marks might not be the marks received in the exam - there's all sorts of fiddling that goes on. But that's the general idea of how it all works. I_F

    help- printer spooler

I had this issue with a Lexmark printer. It occurs when you have installed a third party printer driver (i.e. your Dell one) and then disabled it without uninstalling (or the driver gets corrupted). The driver inserts itself between the system and the printer spooler, hence making the error. It...
