    Enders Game

Ender's Game kicks arse, I wish we were doing it. It's such a brilliant story... Anyways, HSC Online has a unit on Ender's Game. Go there, click on "English", "Area of Study", "Focus: Imaginative Journeys", and then "Ender's Game". Also, a quick tip. When writing about Ender's Game, be sure to...

How do we get our HSC exam raw marks?!

I think you can request the raw marks from the Board of Studies under Freedom of Information. There's fees involved though. EDIT: I_F

Why does everyone become so satirical during/after the HSC?

Probably by-products of stress, wanting the whole school thing to end, and a general realisation of how crappy the world really is. I know that last one has me pretty cynical now, sad and stupid as it is. I_F

    Board endorsed courses

Based on timobr0's info, he's not eligible for a UAI or the award of the HSC since he only has 8 units worth of Board Developed/Endorsed courses. I_F

    Help~!

As the computer is starting up, press F8. From the screen that comes up, select "Safe Mode". When the computer boots up, you should have the logon screen with your account and an Administrator account. Click on the Administrator account and you should be able to log in - most computers don't...

    inverse trig.

You've actually been doing inverse trig for a while - every time you enter [SHIFT] [SIN] 0.5 = 30 on your calculator, in fact, and every other time you've used your calculator to find an angle. The 3 unit chapter simply expands it to graphing and calculus. Just remember: the inverse trig...

    Galvanometers

Yes, the core turns. The coil is wrapped around the core, so it would have a hard time not rotating as well as the coil. I_F

Help with Electron Configuration please :)

To use these diagrams, all you do is follow the arrows, counting as you go, and then once you get to the right number, you add across each line for the electron configuration. Each "level" is a shell - first shell has two, second has 8, third has 18 (8+10, count across the page), etc. If you...

Just want to confirm something about tiration

When we did the prac we had the unknown solution in the burette, not the known one, and that was following the textbook. Perhaps it's just more accurate to pipette in the unknown rather than the known, but I'm not really sure if it matter either way. I_F

    HSC Assessments- Thoughts/Results

Short tests are a bastard. You have to rush in the first place, and then you don't have time at the end to go back and check things. I was so glad we weren't too time challenged in our 3U trig test - I had time to go back and redo two questions that I completely stuffed up the first time...

    strength vs proton donation

A strong acid will dissociate completely in solution. It may be monoprotic (HCl), diprotic (H2SO4) or triprotic (H3PO4) - this has nothing to do with whether or not it is a strong acid. A weak acid does not dissociate completely in solution, and again, it could be monoprotic (HCOOH), diprotic...

What time do u get to bed each night after all of ur work???

I'm usually in bed by 10:30 to 11:00. I aim for about 7-8 hours of sleep a night, and that keeps me going. I_F

    Does more units=higher UAI. ??

That's my reasoning. Yes, it'd be nice to have the extra time with 10 units, but then I'm vulnerable to pretty much anything come the exams. If I have a bad day, get a headache, have to work in 40 degree heat, or anything else, it'll directly impact my final results. It's more work to keep 12...

    HSC Assessments- Thoughts/Results

2 unit Maths: 49/50 (1st). As an explanation, I'm doing 4-unit, but we still do the 2-unit assessments in case we drop down. I just forgot the "+c" in primitive functions. Stupid c... I_F

A little box will come up with all the windows you currently have opening. Keep pressing tab (whilst holding down Alt) to cycle through the windows to get to the...

    Differentiation Question

2x3 + 5x2 -4x / x This can be written as (2x3/x) + (5x2/x) - (4x/x) That simplifies to 2x2 + 5x - 4, which can then be differentiated easily. Alternative, you can use the quotient rule ( [vu' - uv']/v2 - bottom times derivative of top minus top times derivative bottom all over the...

    Amphoteric and Amphiprotic

If you add an acid to water, it cannot become more basic. Check out this site. They then multiply through and all sorts of stuff with the Kw formula, but in the end, you have to include the fact that water self-ionises in the calculation for very dilute acids. It all ends up with very dilute...

    Sydney Uni study day

I found the day very helpful. We got in late to the Imaginative Journeys lecture in the morning, and that was excellent. Structuring the AoS was also very good (much better than Composing, which our teacher described as "the crappest thing I've ever had to sit through politely"), and The Tempest...

    Best Physics Textbooks

Jacaranda is hands down the best. Syllabus in the front with page numbers, covers almost everything. It's far superior to the Macquarie books we used before. I usually use HSC Online as a second source if necessary - its cheap and easy to access. I_F
