    Motor Effect Force

Sorry, I think I have some incorrect info in my previous post. Consider the ends of the coil that are perpendicular to the magnetic field. They will always experience a CONSTANT force (F = BIlsin90). What you are probably referring to is TORQUE - this is what fluctuates in your scenarios with...

Depends what sides you're talking about. But source 2 is correct in the standard sense (need a diagram).

    Faraday's Law Paradox

Ah, well there's an article on wiki called Faraday Paradox on exactly this :P

    Faraday's Law Paradox

I was doing some questions and picked up on a neat paradox (had to talk to physicist teacher to explain this one :P). Suppose you have a rotating metal disc fully immersed in a uniform magnetic field as such: Try to predict what happens, and explain it if you can. :) P.S google is cheating

Nope. y = f(x) had parts under the curve. So when drawing y = f(x) + |f(x)|, I had to indicate that it ran across x-axis (as x-approaches +- infinite). It makes sense since not including that would meant here is no function value there. :(

nah they weren't really mistakes HAHA. I didn't know you had to draw an arrow to indicate a curve runs along the x-axis. :(

    HSC Physics Marathon 2013-2015 Archive

Re: HSC Physics Marathon 2014 I don't know how to do it. Seems more like an extracurricular question than a M&G question :( My logic gets iffy with non-ohmic stuff. Maybe a new question? :)

Slip Rings vs. Slip Ring Commutators

Yep sorry wrong word. maintain --> switch lol
  12. Q

Slip Rings vs. Slip Ring Commutators

Yes, it's more correct to say "slip rings" rather than "slip ring commutators" simply because a commutator is a device that switches current direction. You'd still get full marks for saying the latter.

What is the combustion of ethanol in excess oxygen?

The combustion of ethanol in excess oxygen is a complete combustion forming carbon dioxide and water as products: [chemical equation]
  16. Q

What is the combustion of ethanol in excess oxygen?

^ Adding on, incomplete combustion involves products such as C and CO as there is not enough oxygen for them to form CO2.

Nothing is meant to show up. When press "reply with quote" on the final post you want to quote and they will all show up.

How can you tell when an equation has an oblique asymptote?

^ Adding on, I believe it is only strictly correct to refer to asymptotes as straight lines. Thus you have an oblique asymptote when deg (A) - deg (B) = 1. Otherwise, the function is asymptotic to y = x^2, say.
