random question ive been wondering, not based on anything
if someone is ranked first in a subject but on the day of their hsc idk they get in a car crash or smth, but basically they dont sit that subject bc of some misadventure, and then the person who WAS ranked second gets like a state rank, would that person who was in first also get a state rank bc they were ranked higher? or can they not assume they wouldve done better?? how do they even deal w that.. i have so many questions about like random anomalous cases and how theyd handle it

This is oddly specific, but I'm pretty sure you can never get a state rank from someone else's marks. I'm curious to know too, though

no you will get their mark for the school assessment but for the hsc mark they will estimate it based on the overall classes performance and hsc mark that the student who was ranked first got last year. at least thats what my teacher said. so like the rest of the class would probably have done averageish so your hsc mark will be brought down
